Today was probably the only day the class was going to meet in an actual classroom unless Jaina somehow got lazy enough for a movie day. ...She would probably not do that.

"Hey, guys," she greeted them from where she was sitting on the edge of her desk. It was probably the only time she'd get to do that in this classroom, too. "This is Combat, so if you're not supposed to be here, escape now. For everyone who's supposed to be here, my name is Jaina Solo, and we can be on a first name basis here. I know too many students for it not to be.

"I'm from another galaxy, a Jedi Knight with military training, and I'm good at fighting. Really good," she went on, without a hint of modesty, because well, it was true. "I'm betting a lot of you are, too. Some of you might even know more than me in some areas, and in others I'll completely surpass you. Learning is a process, and you're never really done with it. So in this class you're going to learn some skills, whether you've been doing this for years or have never thrown a punch in your life. Some of it will be hand-to-hand, some will be with weapons, some things you'll have seen and others you won't have any idea what it even is. We'll be starting that next week. This week, we're doing introductions. Yes, I know you'll be sick of them by Friday, but it's how I'm going to figure out where we are as a class. I want to hear your name, where you're from, what kind of experience you have, and if there's anything you want to learn in particular, say so." She pointed at someone at random. "Let's start with you."

"Yes," she said, heading over to hug him.

How many other teachers gave out hugs, huh?

Anakin wasn't exactly in the habit of counting teachers who gave out hugs, but this was the important one.

"You really came back here and stuck yourself with teaching?" he asked, hugging her back. "I'm not complaining."

"It's not the first time I've done it," she admitted, pulling back. "Thought a semester or so back here wouldn't be such a bad thing."

"I'm glad you're here," Anakin told her. "You should have seen the look on your own face when I said you were teaching, though!"

That sentence totally made sense, and he hadn't even stopped to wonder how it did.

Jaina really smiled at that. "I bet. She's not even making rookies cry yet," she said. "Did you go home?"

"For a couple of days," Anakin confirmed, and even if he didn't say as much he was a little disappointed at having to come back. "Nothing awfully important, really."

"Trust me when I say the uneventful trips are the good ones," Jaina said. Because she knew exactly where he was coming from on this.

Of course she did. Anakin couldn't be surprised by that.

"It was nice," he agreed reluctantly. "I wouldn't have minded getting to do something, though."

Someone really should be careful what he wished for.

"Between your class and Grandfather's, I don't think my Tuesdays are going to be boring, at least."

"That's good. No one likes boring," Jaina said. "And you should definitely keep that class interesting for him."

Know what? Anakin could be a pain sometimes. "But you just said uneventful was good," he protested. "And are you telling me I'm going to make class interesting, or that I should?"

She fixed him with her best big sister 'oh please' look. He was probably very used to seeing that. "Uneventful at home is good. Boring in class probably means you'll lead a revolt of it somehow," Jaina pointed out. "As for the you will or you should question... both."

He was so used to seeing it. That didn't mean he'd back down without at least countering with his mulish-little-brother expression.

"If I get in trouble, I'm telling him you said that," Anakin replied.

He wouldn't.

"He might assume I put you up to it anyway," Jaina countered.

"I bet Kam and Tionne would be happy to argue otherwise," Anakin told her. Yes, he was perfectly aware how much trouble he could get himself into, thanks.

"I'd love to see that conversation," Jaina mused. "'No, he's always been this way...'"

"Some help you are," Anakin pretended to complain. "I'm so glad I get to have you telling me what to do all semester now."

"It'll be like you're home," Jaina grinned.

"That's very considerate of you," Anakin said. "You know, this means we'll have to find a way to race soon."

Yay sibling rivalry.

"Oh, is that what that means," she said.

Like she'd say no.

"Why? Getting rusty in your old age?" Anakin asked, and he probably shouldn't look as smug as he did right now.

"Oh, sweetie," she said. "Just tell me when, and I'll show you how rusty I am."

Anakin was so going to get owned, but don't bother telling him that.

"Why? Because you need the prep time?"

Keep digging, Anakin. Keep digging.

"I can go anytime. You're the one stalling on when," Jaina shrugged.

It was such a good thing one of them was mature. "Fine. How about now?"

"I've got nothing to do now," she said. "Let's go, little brother."
