BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge [Saturday morning]

It had been with several bone-crushing hugs, a lucky rabbit's foot, two trashy books and an iPod that Olive had boarded the plane. If she had to guess, geographically, she had started to really miss her parents and brothers somewhere over Texas. (Texas was huge. She was probably right.) She'd pushed that away and shoved in her earbuds in an attempt to sleep, to no avail.

And...now she was supposed to meet new classmates. Okay. She found the designated loungey area thing -- and holy crap, that glittery sign was like something Marianne would make (so...not a great omen) -- and took a seat. Tempted as she was to retreat into her book and iPod again, she instead only fiddled idly with her phone, looking up every couple minutes to see if anyone relatively her age had come over. She hated being the first one anywhere. Now there was like, this onus on her.

She had maybe just won her Words With Friends game with her mom, as soon as the plane had landed, with "onus." She was pretty proud of that.

She missed Caius.

Which was ridiculous as he'd brought her to the airport and left only once they were sure she knew where she was going but Yeul couldn't help but miss him already when she knew that this was more final than a few hours apart.

As she studied the glitter sign that proclaimed her school's name and then looked around at the other people who would be her classmates, Yeul wondered if disagreeing with the idea would have changed things. Possibly. Possibly not.

There was no way to tell and no way to change the past (no way, at least, that she was willing to think about overlong) and so the only way for her now was forward. Yeul took a seat carefully, aware of the fact that between her wardrobe and her hair and her minimal luggage, she stood out a little.

Despite that, and being alone, she found herself quietly pleased. This was new. Entirely so. That was to be enjoyed.

Yeul smiled at the girl. "Yes," she said simply. "You as well, I assume?"

Given the lounge, the sign, and the other girl's apparent age, she felt that was a safe enough assumption.

"I'm Yeul," she added. "It's nice to meet you."

"I've never heard of Christmas," Yeul admitted. "Does it have something to do with my name? It's spelled Y-e-u-l."

She hoped that would be helpful.

A globe might only make Olive more confused, all things considered, at this rate...

"Ah." Yeul let it go with another smile. "Are you from around here, then?"

"Gran Pulse," she shared. "Though back home we call it just 'Pulse' for every day conversation."

But it seemed strange to not give the full name of her planet the first time she told someone of it.

Well, at least someone who looked different. All of these humans were starting to make Cade's skin crawl. "What planet are you from, pateesa?" he asked.

"Pateesa?" Yeul asked curiously. "I'm afraid I'm not aware of what that means. I'm from the planet Gran Pulse, however. Have you heard of it? Which planet are you from?"

"Is that in the Mid-Rim?" Cade asked. "Don't spend much time in there. And pateesa is just slang for girl."

Well, "sweetie."

"It might be," she said thoughtfully. "I couldn't say for sure where my planet is located. We don't have much to do with space at home."

She added, "I'm Yeul."

In case he felt like calling her something other than 'girl'. Though Yeul didn't mind that either. She was one, after all. It seemed silly to mind something like that.

"Cade," he replied. "You don't have much to do with space? How do you get all of your stuff?"

That he may or may not steal while it was flying to your planet. Cough.

He could try, but...

"Everything we require is produced on our planet," she said, with some surprise. "Is that not how your planet is?"

"Not for about ten thousand years," Cade said. "I mean, some backrocket planets still farm dirt or whatever--" Cade was quite an expert on farming, clearly, "but we're pretty interconnected."

"How do you work around your fal'Cie?" she asked, knowing that at home, that would never happen without their consent. "Or... do you not have any?"

Perhaps the fal'Cie on his world kept their attention on other things, rather than the people who lived there.

Jessica wasn't sure if this was some kind of weird ren-fair cosplay or something, but if it was, she wasn't going to call attention to it. After all, what was weirder: cosplay or spider-clone? Yeah, no stones cast.

"I don't know about you, but I think I'm getting the hang of this sitting around and waiting thing," Jessica said. It was nearly a hello.

It was certainly close enough for Yeul, who wouldn't be so rude as to demand a proper hello.

"Some people are naturally more restless than others," she said earnestly. "I'm glad that the waiting is not interminable for you."

Oh, Yeul.

"Thank you for that," Jessica said. "I'm guessing you're one of the less restless people? Most of the hyperactive people I know don't casually drop five syllable words in conversation."

"Of course, most of them don't know any five syllable words." And any they did know went away after being concussed because they were criminals and Jessica punched them in the head. Look, Jess didn't know many people outside of the costume.

Yeul smiled slightly. "I would not be considered hyperactive even by a very generous definition of such. Sitting and waiting is nothing new to me." Really, really nothing new. "Do you know many hyperactive people?"

"I know there's a school and the town is an island," Jessica said. And there was something about alternate dimensions, but that was technically classified information at the moment. "Other than that? Not a whole lot. I'll be asking a lot of questions when we get there, I bet."

"There's a castle on the island," Yeul shared, since Jessica hadn't mentioned it. "At least, that's what the brochure said. Have you ever been to a castle before? I hope the more experienced students do not mind questions because I will be asking them as well."
