All Across the Island, Sunday Morning through Afternoon

The time for a final strike had finally arrived. The prisoners of detention had been freed, powers and abilities had been returned, and all that remained was Umbridge, and her still-faithful Loyalists.

It was time to pick a side, and bring Umbridge's reign to an end.

"Fries! Cheeeeseburgers. Breakfast of unhealthy champions, screw Umbridge's ideas." Kenzi handed over a bag, grinning, and took another slurp on her shake. "It's a better thing that I broke his toy. That boy should be watched at all times, jeez."

"What kind of toy?" Rory asked as she eagerly dug into the bag. "Electronic toy?"

"Kind of a gun-thingie that he was going around shooting people with. Probably a taser or something, knowing him," Kenzi said with distaste. "Now it's in bits. Man, I love my bat. And brute force." She looked around. "Do we know anything new and exciting? Or where Her Heinousness is?"

"Mostly I've been treading water," she admitted. "Not sure where she is, but then, they also probably wouldn't keep me in the loop there -- I'm home base at best. But yeah, most of what I've found is stuff we already know. They don't seem to have a biography on her or, like, 101 Easy Ways to Destroy an Evil Witch."

"We can experiment. See if she weighs more than a duck! And if she can float! Or if she's flammable!"

"Yeah, I'm not sold on the idea that she'll let us get that close, but the list of things that 'set on fire' didn't work on is pretty short," Rory noted thoughtfully.

"And then we'll dump the ashes in... the sewer system. No, wait. They would probably mutate into a sludge monster or something." Kenzi looked thoughtful. "Spread 'em out so they're never all found, yeah." She grimaced. "Is it cool to say I'm hating on magic right now?"

"I've never been a fan," Rory said with a little face. "I mean, the stuff the Jedi do is okay, because the way -- the way some of them explain it, it sounds like there's science behind it. Straight-up magic is too unpredictable for me."

"Yes, that. And I guess magic's all over the place back home, you just never see it." Kenzi grimaced. "Maybe I'll go somewhere else soon. After she gets dealt with, are you going to stay?"

"Can't," Rory said immediately, shaking her head. "I don't know how anyone could, honestly. I'd never be able to move on."

She probably still wouldn't.

Kenzi gave her a thoughtful look. "Yeeeeah. I hear you. But. I figure a thousand miles and couple years are a good place to start. I'm thinking... Rio."

"It'll be a nice contrast," Rory decided. "I'll probably settle for some college, far away from here, in my own world. No magic, no murders on my high school lawn, just books and paper and what I know how to deal with."

Kenzi blinked at her, then ventured, "You seem pretty okay right now. I mean. You're here, and all."

"My boyfriend was the first person she killed," Rory said, keeping her voice casual. "Kinda hard to spring back from that, even after a few years. So yeah, somewhere not here for the rest of my life? Ideal."

"Your boyfriend was Anakin Skywalker?" Kenzi blinked hard. "Um. yeah, no, I get it." She paused, feeling a little bit guilty for all that spraypainted Anakin Skywalker was here graffiti earlier in the week.

"We were high school sweethearts," she said with a little nod. "I mean, it was sort of a secret, even when he died. A lot of people don't know. I kind of don't bring it up, especially since...you know, it seems like sort of a crappy ploy for attention, if I do."

"I don't think you could ever have as crappy a ploy for attention as Umbitch with her 'remember I killed that one guy first' thing in half the announcements," Kenzi said. "I guess he was a big deal?"

"Well, she just really hated him," Rory said with a fond, sad smile. "He got under her skin a bunch."

"Good for him. Well, lousy for him, but still." Kenzi grimaced. "At least he'd be happy we got her out of the school?"

"Exactly why I'm here," Rory said with a firm nod. "I think he'd be really proud of all of us, honestly."
