Detention, Depths of the Castle, Monday

Morning had broken in Fandom, and another day in detention was about to begin, the same as every other day.

For the moment, things were as quiet as they probably ever got, while everyone was still resting on their cots, women on one side of the magical black cloth barrier, men on the other. Soon, those who had managed to sleep would be woken by the ever-cheerful voice of Dolores Umbridge coming from the loudspeakers, ordering them to rise. The barrier would disappear, and whatever bland, tasteless substance they were calling breakfast today would appear instead. After that, those in detention were free to do whatever they wanted ... if they could find anything to do that didn't break one of the island's rules, or that could be done while trapped away from everyone else.

But really, the days of those in detention weren't that slow. Soon enough, visiting hours would start, and there wouldn't be nearly as much boredom then.

[OCD is up, have at it!]

"Yup!" Dinah had to smile at the question, and reached for Sam's hand. "How are you doing?"

"I'm okay, I guess. As good as anyone can be here," Sam said, giving her hand a weak squeeze. He didn't want to trouble her, not when she was so nice to him.

Dinah had seen him talking with Peter earlier, and it made her chest hurt. But she hadn't interrupted, because hey. Reality was always going to come back and suck. "How'd you sleep? Jono and I have a pretty good game of After We Get Out going today, if you want to join in." Sometimes he wasn't up to it, but Dinah kept hoping Sam would find a little more balance between the inside of his head, and what was happening around them.

Sam wasn't sure what a game of hope would do for him, but he at least understood that it made Dinah happy, like the whole staying active thing. "Okay, what have you got so far?"

Dinah squeezed his fingers harder, and smiled, hopeful. "Well first: sleep. We haven't figured out how cool are beds are going to be yet, but I figure a king-size that we can all curl up on would be nice." It hurt to sleep alone all the time. "Then, we were talking fish and chips. Have you ever had those?"

"Not authentic ones. You guys can have that, but I'm getting a cheeseburger. We can share the chips though. Dean'll probably want some, but I won't let him eat everything," Sam said. "Assuming we can be bothered to get out of what sounds like a nice bed."

"Breakfast in bed," Dinah suggested, eyes widening. "And of course Dean will, but yeah, I'll steal them back if he gets too pushy. Ketchup. Vinegar. Ooo, ranch dressing." Her stomach rumbled. "And, this game is more fun when it's not lunchtime with no lunch."

"Okay, so no more talk of food. What's the first non-food thing you'd do?" Sam asked.

"Dance," Dinah said instantly, the idea tumbling out without anything tos top it. "Dance on the roof of the dorms, then jump off it. Fast dancing, slow dancing, dirty dancing, dancing to music, dancing to something the State of Sadness doesn't approve of." She could dance in here, but there was no music, no space... "Well, I guess we could dance. If you wanted to." Heh.

"I don't know if that would be allowed. It might be too pleasant," Sam said, smirking softly. "And I don't know if I'd be a very good dancer."

"Maybe after dinner," Dinah said, smirking back a little. "When no one will be visiting to object to it. And hey. I can always teach you."

...okay, try not to sound so hopeful.

"You wouldn't mind? Oh, it'd be like working out, right? Staying fit. To fight." Why else would she want to do it?

"Of course. Because we're going to get a fight, eventually."

That was the only reason. Yup. No other reason. At all. Exactly.

"Well, then I can help. I'll try not to step on your feet, I promise," Sam said. Dinah was nice, she'd understand.

"I promise not to hit you if you do." Dinah grinned at him. "And hey, it should be good for a laugh or two if we fall down."
