Detention, Depths of the Castle, Monday

Morning had broken in Fandom, and another day in detention was about to begin, the same as every other day.

For the moment, things were as quiet as they probably ever got, while everyone was still resting on their cots, women on one side of the magical black cloth barrier, men on the other. Soon, those who had managed to sleep would be woken by the ever-cheerful voice of Dolores Umbridge coming from the loudspeakers, ordering them to rise. The barrier would disappear, and whatever bland, tasteless substance they were calling breakfast today would appear instead. After that, those in detention were free to do whatever they wanted ... if they could find anything to do that didn't break one of the island's rules, or that could be done while trapped away from everyone else.

But really, the days of those in detention weren't that slow. Soon enough, visiting hours would start, and there wouldn't be nearly as much boredom then.

[OCD is up, have at it!]

There really wasn't much going on with Jamie that was considered "chatting". For the most part he was sitting in the corner and drooling quietly to himself.

Occasionally he would mutter something about the girl who knows too much but other than that...

Drooling.

And that would be Bruce. Sitting there and looking cheery and happy.

Unless Raven was going to come along and change his mood to something else, just to give him a little variety.

But for now? Cheerfulness! Which was a bit of torture for anyone involved.

Florida slid cautiously out from under her cot and looked around. Carefully, she edged towards the table, snatched some food and ducked under said table to eat it.

Jono was not the mingling sort. Jono was more the 'sit in his well-lit corner of the room, arms crossed over his chest, eyes narrowed while he kept a careful eye on the people around him' sort.

He'd given up on escape plans years ago. These days, he mostly settled for attempting to keep his sanity, even in the face of all of the madmen down here, by remembering song lyrics, book quotes, anything that could give his mind some exercise.

As he ate, Calvin asked Hobbes what he thought today's mystery meat product was, but he didn't get a response.

That was alright though. Hobbes didn't really talk much these days. Or move. Or do anything other than sit there, really. Calvin should probably take him to a vet when he had the chance.

Half of my comments are being marked as spam, and then other ones seem to be going through with no trouble at all. Has a solution to that been found, yet? This journal is a member of the community, so you'd think that LJ wouldn't flag it, but...

Oh! And while I'm thinking about it, a few more questions because I like to keep you guys busy!

1) Are the inmates here in detention able to hear radio broadcasts as well?

2) Jonothon communicates with telepathy. Does this mean that he can only verbally communicate with the other inmates, because of the barriers that are set up to keep the Loyalists safe when they come down to torment the people who are being held down here?

Thanks!

Dinah's way of coping was her work-outs. And occasional moments of trying to figure out a way the hell out of this place, and checking to see if her telekinesis was still off-line (so far, so bad).

But the answer to the question, "what would Barbara Gordon do?" was... make sure she didn't deteriorate. So. Push-ups. Sit-ups. Shadow-boxing.

Trying to talk to people would happen after she was done.

This was the worst time of day. This was the time of day that Jono had learned long ago to keep his head down through. To not speak unless spoken to.

... Hell, to just not speak at all, if he could help it. Not difficult, when forming words required the conscious focus that it took to project his thoughts outwards in the shape of words in the first place. But sometimes, it was tempting to say things that he'd inevitably end up regretting, later.

Granted, he didn't regret those things all that much, no matter what state they tended to leave him in when they were done.

I just went through and turned that setting off (thanks for switching it on for everyone by default when you added it, LJ) for FH, dorms, townies, and ooc, so the spam-flagging should stop in the comms now. Unfortunately it'll still happen in character journals until the owner goes in to turn it off.

My guess is that LJ just recently - like in the last couple of days -- made the criteria for suspected spam journals a lot stricter in response to the recent spate of actual spammers who've been leaving YouTube vid links. Which, sigh. Well-meant but poorly thought-out.

Jonothon had a bit of a routine worked up, these days. After a few years in this bloody hole, how could he not?

His routine, of course, generally consisted of watching other people eat, and then silently thanking himself that he couldn't.

One particular corner of the Detention room stood out from the rest in that it was coated with ice. Backed into that corner sat a human-shaped icicle who went by the name of Bobby Drake.

He did his best to keep the ice from creeping out and spreading across Detention, because while he could survive just fine, as a particularly disastrous escape attempt early in his captivity had proved, that wasn't so much the case for most of the rest of his fellow captives.

So he sat, half his focus on keeping the ice in check and the other half engaged in conversation with someone only he could see.

"Checkers?"

Don't be a simpleton, Robert.

"Snakes and Ladders?"

Now you're just being ridiculous.

"...Hangman?"

Absolutely not.

Bobby just sighed. "Ugh, fine." Chess was boring, but at least it was something to do. Even if the game only existed in his head.

Given that Wolf Den had served the same type of basic food, Goose had learnt to build up a resistance long before he had been thrown into detention.

It didn't mean that he enjoyed it though but when the alternative was to go hungry, he could deal with it as best he could considering the circumstances.

Cassidy's appetite wasn't very good today, but she still came out and found someone to sit beside so that she could force herself to remember that there were other people around her.

Re: Chat With Your Fellow Prisoners [07/23]

[identity profile] noroselessthorn.livejournal.com 2012-07-23 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
Cassidy found herself a place that was a little bit away from the rest of the prisoners. She wasn't having a very good day and that meant she was going to be sitting over here, trying to remember everything about home and all of the lessons she had learned.

Going over the knowledge in her head sometimes helped with the fact that she had been cut off from the land.

Sometimes.

This was the time of day that Cassidy disliked the most. She was never sure if someone was coming for her or if she would just have to watch and hear others being hurt.

She made sure she had her back to a wall so she could see anyone that might come to her.

Liara picked at her food.

She'd eat it - she always did. Right now she was just indulging herself in the image of flinging it biotically at the next person to come in and order her to eat it.

[identity profile] flaps-wings.livejournal.com 2012-07-23 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Liara would wander from place to place, occasionally striking up - somewhat awkward, but well-meant - conversation with whoever she ran across. It kept her busy, and it was a good way to occupy her mind as well.

She wished fervently she'd paid more attention in her classes. New as she was, she had not yet given up hope on a way out of here, but she was starting to consider that perhaps she... didn't have the skillset required.

"I bet they have a contest on how to make it taste more like nothing, while making the texture more bleah." Dinah forced herself to swallow a bite, and gave Jono a weak grin.
