Detention, Depths of the Castle, Monday

Morning had broken in Fandom, and another day in detention was about to begin, the same as every other day.

For the moment, things were as quiet as they probably ever got, while everyone was still resting on their cots, women on one side of the magical black cloth barrier, men on the other. Soon, those who had managed to sleep would be woken by the ever-cheerful voice of Dolores Umbridge coming from the loudspeakers, ordering them to rise. The barrier would disappear, and whatever bland, tasteless substance they were calling breakfast today would appear instead. After that, those in detention were free to do whatever they wanted ... if they could find anything to do that didn't break one of the island's rules, or that could be done while trapped away from everyone else.

But really, the days of those in detention weren't that slow. Soon enough, visiting hours would start, and there wouldn't be nearly as much boredom then.

[OCD is up, have at it!]

Clint had a patrol to go on, but he had some time to kill before heading out, and that meant stopping by to check on his favorite person in detention--for a certain definition of favorite, at least. When he didn't spot Loki right away, he let out a whistle like he was calling a pet. "Hey, your majesty, come on out."

Loki's jaw went tight and shoulders tense for a moment before suddenly relaxing as he twisted in place with a smile. He could play games all day, little hawk. All. Day.

"You flatter me! I am a prince of Asgard in name only."

"And how's that working out for you down here?" Clint asked. "Have you gathered any loyal minions to do your bidding?"

"Just my hawk," Loki replied sweetly. "He is a slow creature, but I believe of great use."

Clint narrowed his eyes a little at that. "You don't have a good track record of kindness with hawks. I bet he's not half as slow as you think."

Loki's mouth turned down in a little moue of disappointment. "He is only a simple beast. Such creatures do not understand beyond the orders given to them."

Each word was said with the care of a poisoned dagger being thrust into an unprotected belly.

"That's what you believe because you've only ever given orders," Clint said, trying not to let himself be affected by Loki's words. He wasn't the one stuck down here, after all. "If you gave your hawk a little freedom, I bet you'd be surprised to find out what he can do."

"Then why, little bird, do you seek me out?" Loki asked, cloying sweet tone. "You crave subjugation more than anything else, do you not?"

Sorry, Clint. He was a terrible little godling.

If Loki was trying to make Clint growl, he'd definitely succeeded. "No, I do not," he said sharply. "I'm here to remind you of our places. I get to fly free and do as I please, and you're trapped here like the rat you are, weak and powerless. This is how it's supposed to be."

"What is a tyrant to a god?" Loki asked, holding himself up to full height. Which was still shorter than Clint, but still. "I will watch as this building falls down around me, I will watch as you tear your little wings off struggling in your cage. I will watch and I will not lift a finger. What are you to a god? You are nothing."

Clint held himself up to his full height as well, and then grabbed Loki by his shirt and shoved him to the ground. "You're not going to watch anything," he said, leaning over Loki and speaking just loudly enough for him to hear. "You're going to sit down here and rot until it's decided that there's no point in keeping you around anymore, and when that day comes, I am going to make sure your death comes at my hands."

"You may try, but I do not think my death will come at your hands, little bird."

It may have been Loki's tone, or how confident he seemed, but either way, something in Clint snapped, and he grabbed Loki's shirt again and punched him. "We'll see about that," he said. "I might not make it quick."

"Better men have threatened worse, sweet hawk," Loki replied, blinking away the pain as he grabbed at Clint's wrist to pry him off. He was sturdier than humans, but he wasn't what he might have once been with all the forces of Asgardian magic at his disposal. "And learned the cost of crossing me."

"I'm not a sweet hawk anymore," Clint said, shaking off Loki's grabbing with a grin. "And I'm not afraid of you anymore either, or your empty threats."

Well then. Loki smiled at that, hand lashing out with the handy plastic knife from earlier to slice into Clint's arm.

"No, merely a foolish one."

Well, that was just pathetic, really, and Clint laughed as he tried to punch Loki in the face. "You're going to pay for that. Maybe I'll talk them into letting you have a real weapon when your time comes. A proper fight would be nice."

Hey! That was thoroughly uncalled for, Clint!

Loki stumbled back, rubbing his jaw. "My brother will rip you limb from limb."

"We'll see about that," Clint said, standing up. "Unlike you, I actually have a function besides entertainment, and I've got to get to work. It's been so nice to see you again."

Oh, you did not, Clint.

"Come back when you wish to exchange one master for another, tiercel!"
