Janet unlocked the door to the library, turned on the lights, and sat down behind the Collections Desk. She warily eyed the rather strange-looking romance novel with the centaur and the mermaid on the cover. It was just lying there on the corner of the desk.

"Poor Tino," said Janet. "I hope the pay is worth it. ~~Hee! How funny!~~"

Janet grinned. "Apparently not. So, what are you hoping is going to happen at dinner?"

"I don't know," Angela said, going redder. "I mean, nothing can happen. I have to at least finish out the school year here, and he has stuff to do back home -- I mean, I don't think he would want to stay in Fandom. Like, even if he wanted to, I don't think he could."

"So ... I guess I just want to see him." She tried to look honest as she said this. Even though, mentally, she's wondering what the pay at Empire Records is like and debating whether there would be any chance he would want to actually come back to high school. You know. Just in case.

"Why couldn't he?" asked Janet. "Wait, is this because you're from 1995? Or is it for other reasons?" She grinned just a little at Angela's embarrassment. "Who doesn't want to see an ex you still get along with? They're rare enough, after all."

Angela sighed. "Jordan sort of dropped out at the end of sophomore year. He has a job and stuff back home. Plus I think he's dating someone. And even if it wasn't for the 1995 thing ... yeah, I don't think he would deal well with Fandom. At all."

She shook her head. "Our relationship was kind of ... like, he never liked me the way I liked him, if that makes sense. I don't know if that can change. But you know how some people, you just look at them and you feel this connection? We always have that."

"Not everyone can deal well with all the weirdness here," said Janet. She ignored the fact that Angela thought Jordan was dating someone else. It realy wasn't her business. "You've adapted pretty well, though. What do you think would freak him out the most? The zombies, the snow monsters, or the giant floating head that is our Dean of Students?"

Janet nodded. "I know how that feels," she said. "Both with the disparity in feelings and the connection you get with some people. That kind of connection never really goes away."

"All of the above?" Angela shrugged, then thought. "Actually, he probably wouldn't freak out. He just ... wouldn't find it interesting. I mean, obviously it's interesting, but.." she flailed. "I can't explain it, but if you met him, you would understand what I mean."

Her eyes got dreamy. "And yeah. Some connections, you just can't shake, you know?"

[MSCL note: Jordan is kind of a stoner/slacker type. He's also dyslexic, which was only diagnosed when he was 17. He is also either not very bright or (in Angela's love-struck opinion) on a different plane than most people, and he didn't treat her especially well by adult standards. He's hot, though -- Jared Leto played him -- and there's a definite chemistry.]

"Maybe I'll get a chance to meet him while he's here," said Janet. "Or maybe I'll just have to take your word for it. No, I understand. There are a couple of people from my old school who wouldn't adapt well here."

Janet grinned. "I know."

OOC: Aha! Thank you!

"Depends how long he stays," Angela said.

"So what are you doing tonight?"

[OOC: NP, it would have taken a looooong time for Angela to explain that.]

"There is that," said Janet. "As for tonight? Nothing, really. Maybe seeing what's on TV in the common room."
