The Library (2/10/06)

Janet unlocked the door to the library, turned on the lights, and sat down behind the Collections Desk. She warily eyed the rather strange-looking romance novel with the centaur and the mermaid on the cover. It was just lying there on the corner of the desk.

John vacates the bookshelf and stealthily moved to the very back of the library, taking shelter behind an old dusty bookshelf.

Janet started moving back farther in the library, looking for John. He shouldn't be able to sneak out past her.

Unfortunately, the farther back in the library she walked, the dustier the books got. And Janet's allergies were triggered ~~whenever the player darn well felt like it~~ by excess amounts of dust, despite her daily antihistamines. So she sneezed. Loudly.

Oh, natural alarm!

John heads away from the sound of the sneeze and looks for an open door or a table or a window.

He finally finds a large chair...so he crouches down behind it.

Since the only window Janet knows about in the library is the ~~mysteriously shifting~~ very large, high-up one the giant snake vandalized on Zombie Weekend, she's pretty sure that John can't escape.

On the other hand, he's kind of hard to find. Except she thinks she sees a flash of movement or color behind the large armchair that someone put in the library before the school year even started.

Since they were in the back of the library and John thinks he hears someone coming, he makes a break for it towards the front of the libary. Maybe he could get out of the libary...

"Hah!" exclaimed Janet, as she sees John burst out from behind the chair. "Caught you! You got me detention! When all I was doing was expressing a sincere concer--"

She can't keep it up any more and starts laughing. Damn.

"I got detention too," John says, holding up his hands just in case. "You won't be alone!"

"Really?" asked Janet. Her laughter had subsided to the occasional giggle. "What'd you get detention for? Pretending to be British? At least Professor Dream's running it. He's pretty cool."

"British was on Tuesday," John says, scratching the back of his neck. "This time was pretending to be her son."

"Oh, you didn't!" exclaimed Janet. "How did that go? We had to interview each other today ~~which just went up, so they're currently playing out~~. I think my answers started getting a little silly after about the--well, the first question. I think she wants to run background checks on us and doesn't think we figured it out."

"Well, she turned me into another animal and gave me detention so...not too well. It's okay. I think she really likes me even though she hates me," John says.

"Interviews? Doesn't sound too bad. "And who'd you say had detention this weekend?"

"What animal this time?" asked Janet. "I missed the radio update. And of course she really likes you. Who doesn't?" She snickered. "I told her in class that you were really concerned for the effects of the stress on her kids, by the way. At least I think that's what I said that got me detention."

"When she starts out asking for full name, age, and place of birth and goes right into asking for parents' names," said Janet. "You know she's planning on running background checks. Or at least googling us."

"Meerkat," John says because everyone's gonna know sooner or later. "Huh, sounds like she's taking personal interest in students. That could be good? Maybe?"

"Sounds like fun," said Janet. "Didn't Disney have a cartoon with a hula-dancing meerkat? Personal interest in the students. It could be good, but-- Probably not. You should have seen the look on her face when she 'realized' we were one student short and she had to interview Logan herself. ~~Inspiration has struck and we totally need to check this next bit with other people first. But I wanted to get the idea out there before I forgot. Just so you know.~~ Hey, do you know anyone who does webpages? We should make up a webpage with all kinds of crazy, fake information on the students in her classes."

John listens to her idea and can't help but laugh. "Might garner more detentions, you know."

"Oh, no, how horrible," said Janet, grinning. "I think I can live with the detentions if I get some amusement out of it. Besides, this is cheaper than hiring a private detective to plant false information on our backgrounds. I think one of my parents should be a circus freak, don't you?"

John laughs again. "You find someone who can do webpages and I'll give you hand with the bogus information."

"It's a deal," said Janet.

"Sweet," John says. "I've gotta run to my next class but I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Bye!"

"See you tomorrow!" Janet waved.
