Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were plenty of large umbrellas set up for those who didn't enjoy a good pelting of various summer related materials. Because some people are weird like that.

There was also a splendid selection of food and beverages under a canopy to keep from ingesting suntan lotion. See? Your faculty thought of everything. Except how to make the island behave.

That you'll have to deal with.

[Please wait for the OCD is up! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here and there is more room for mingling here.]

The clearly erroneous situation with his roommate (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/3146024.html?thread=192111656#t192111656) had left Stannis in particular surly form. His teeth ground together as his thoughts ground out what he could do to prove that a mistake had been made and that it be fixed immediately. The trouble was, he didn't even really know who to go to about such a problem, so perhaps he would have to find out. His "big sibling" might be of service there, he supposed.

Until then, he was just going to stew about how displeased he was, glaring at innocent passersby without even realizing it.

"Did they offend you in some way?" Loki asked from his spot under an umbrella.

And now Stannis turned his glare into a frown directed at the other young man. "Who?" he asked, sounding...offended.

Loki gave that some consideration, nibbling on a cheesey puff as he did. "Everyone?"

Stannis grunted. "No," he said. "Only one person, and her very existence is offensive. I suppose I could claim offense with the way things are run around this island, as well, and they're the ones who think it is somehow appropriate for me to live with this woman. I will have to find my so-called 'big sibling' to investigate who to bring this up to. Clearly, a mistake has been made."

Tell us how you really feel, Stannis...

"My roommate was also a girl," Loki said thoughtfully. "Though she left rather quickly. I do not think she liked my magppie too well."

"Miriam is not a girl," Stannis said through clenched teeth, "but rather a fornicating hellbeast twisted by a foul mouth and a complete lack of decency."

But Stannis's face softened a little, which meant it resembled more of a rounded stone than a jagged one. "A magpie, though. Does that work?"

"He is a clever bird," Loki said, keeping an eye out for the supposed hellbeast. Those tended to be easy to spot, but... "Lazy, but clever.

A whistle brought the bird down from where he was hidden between the slats of the umbrella.

Perhaps it was merely his abysmal mood, but Stannis could not help thinking about dark wings and dark words when the magpie was brought to Stannis's attention. "Does he have a name?" he asked.
abitlowkey: (...seriously?)

"Ikol." Stop thinking you're clever, Loki. "I am Loki of Asgard. Who are you?"

"Stannis Baratheon, of the House Baratheon, in Storm's End," he said with a sniff nod of greeting. "I suppose I could add Westeros, but I've come to discover that means little in these lands."

"I have heard of Westeros," Loki said brightly. "From the books Lord Tyrion has loaned me on your gods."

"The old gods or the new?" asked Stannis, and if you listened really, really carefully, there might have been a bit of dry humor in there, but it disappeared, buried under a scoff. "Lord Tyrion. I...do not think I know who you speak of."

There was something about the name that left just the faintest tickle of recognition in the back of Stannis's mind, and he frowned deeply as he tried to mentally scratch it away.

"Both. Your seven are quite interesting. I would like to speak to them some day." Yes. Really. "Tyrion? He is a teacher here. Lannister, if I recall correctly."

And he did.

"Tyrion," Stannis repeated again, frowning, "Lannister?"

Now that name he certainly did recognize, and, suddenly, he was equipped to scratch that niggling feeling of recognition. Once he got it, he stared at Loki in shock.

"They say he's a monster." Oh, Westeros gossip. "They say he tore his mother apart and murdered her when he was born, and that he is bound to grow up a deformed little demon monkey."

Not only that, but he was only about six years old. "How in the Seven Hells could he be here teaching?" Stannis asked, mostly to himself. He shook his head. "No, it must be...a different Tyrion Lannister."

Because there were a lot of those running around and everything.
abitlowkey: (what's that?)

Loki's mouth turned down for a moment before he recovered, shooing Ikol away. "I do not think it could be the same. I hold Lord Tyrion in high respect for his knowledge."

Mercy hesitated when she saw how clearly upset this guy was. "Are you okay?" she asked. "I mean, can I help you with something?"

Okay, so this newbie was scowly, but that was cool, people had different reactions to being sent to boarding school.

"You're not happy to be here, huh?" Petra asked, sympathetic.
