Office hours

She's in her office reading Josh's transcript of the State of the Union address...dying laughing at the margin notes.

Boone, during the free period he had between Business Lae and Speech, walked in CJ's office. He set a cup (http://monthly.chosun.com/upload/0306/0306_628_2.jpg) on her desk. Attached to it is a brief note:

Jack comes bounding in. He's in a good mood. Also, possibly, high on caffeine. "Hey. What do you remember about the 1960s?"

Jack tries to balance a pencil on his nose. "For Quantum Physics, we're studying a time period in depth to judge how and why changes could or couldn't be made. The Doctor picked the 60s. I picked the drug culture movement as my specific area of focus. He said I couldn't bring in LDS or LSP or something. Whatever. Anyway, I just wondered what it looked like from the viewpoint of a person living it, not just from history books. I want to concentrate on the idea of rebellion and anarchy in the period."

Parker smiled as she rapped on the door. "Hey, C.J.!"

"Amusing. Why is Professor Lyman afraid of mariachi bands?" Parker grinned as she stepped into the room.

Jack grins. "Technically, the era we're covering is 1966-1971, but somehow I don't think that would have made much of a difference for you. Anyway, I'm just bouncing around ideas. Say, I wonder if as a field trip the Doctor would take us to the 60s. Might freak out Sam and John, though."

"Of course," Parker said, wandering in to perch on a chair. "His course is great, but it's killing me. And I was wondering-- do you have any suggestions for a birthday present for Jack?"

"A camera?" Parker turns that over in her mind, and smiles. Vala had loved the one she got her for Christmas.... Parker's smile faded a bit. "That'll work. Anything special I should bring to his party on Monday?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Then I'll definitely be there." Parker grinned. "Anything else new with you? Are you recovered all the way from the Christmas break accident yet?"

"I'm glad you're okay, then. And why would I want to give -- or not give-- LSD to Jack anyway?" Parker asked, raising an eyebrow.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Parker chortled, then frowned. "How can he not know? Exactly?" She had both eyebrows up now. "Or should I not ask, the way I don't ask about other things regarding Jack?"

"What that almost-American accent is. What happened to his parents, that you can adopt him so late. How the Doctor got his memory back in November. Why he knows a lot about some things, and nothing about others." Parker's face had sobered. "I *can* keep a secret. But I'd like to know if there's a secret to be kept. Or just something sad and strange, that I shouldn't ask about."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Parker listened, then slowly nodded. "Okay. That's fair. I won't ask more than that." She got to her feet, stretched, winced, then smiled. "See you later, C.J. At Jack's party, if not sooner."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," and Parker's smile back is bright and uncomplicated, because she like's Jack's mom, and it's cool that there's no weirdness there. "Have a good weekend. I'll see you later."

Jack thought about that for a second. "I thought Prof. Pierson was your age. Doesn't that make him too young to remember the 60s, too?"

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack thought about it, and shrugged, because, well, grownups. "I'll have to bug him about that." Sometime when I've done enough research on the topic myself. "So... what are the chances of waffles on Sunday?"
