"Of course," Parker said, wandering in to perch on a chair. "His course is great, but it's killing me. And I was wondering-- do you have any suggestions for a birthday present for Jack?"
"A camera?" Parker turns that over in her mind, and smiles. Vala had loved the one she got her for Christmas.... Parker's smile faded a bit. "That'll work. Anything special I should bring to his party on Monday?"
"As far as I know. I'm feeling good thanks to Aziraphale, and all the cuts are gone too. If I've forgotten anything...eh" she shrugs, "I might never get some stuff back. I can live with that."
Parker chortled, then frowned. "How can he not know? Exactly?" She had both eyebrows up now. "Or should I not ask, the way I don't ask about other things regarding Jack?"
"What that almost-American accent is. What happened to his parents, that you can adopt him so late. How the Doctor got his memory back in November. Why he knows a lot about some things, and nothing about others." Parker's face had sobered. "I *can* keep a secret. But I'd like to know if there's a secret to be kept. Or just something sad and strange, that I shouldn't ask about."
She sucks on her teeth, thinking. Here eyes narrow and she nods. "He didn't really have parents, where he came from. Not like we think of them. Other than that, there are secrets that he needs to keep...for his safety and for yours. And mine. But I tell you what. I'll tell him to tell you what he can. He's getting pretty good with the honestly thing."
Parker listened, then slowly nodded. "Okay. That's fair. I won't ask more than that." She got to her feet, stretched, winced, then smiled. "See you later, C.J. At Jack's party, if not sooner."
"Sounds great, Parker. I'll see you then, and I'll see what he's good with telling you. If I had my way? He'd tell you everything." She raises her eyebrows and smiles, clearly approving of Parker...if only Jack could be the kind to have one partner.
"Thanks," and Parker's smile back is bright and uncomplicated, because she like's Jack's mom, and it's cool that there's no weirdness there. "Have a good weekend. I'll see you later."
