She looks up, a little surprised by his question. "Um, well...I remember my mom pulling my hair into really tight pigtails. My brothers liked to play war, until my cousin got shot in Vietnam, then my dad didn't like it too much. My other cousin used to babysit us, and she dressed like Tara did...give me some idea what you're looking for here, Chip. I was a little kid."
Jack tries to balance a pencil on his nose. "For Quantum Physics, we're studying a time period in depth to judge how and why changes could or couldn't be made. The Doctor picked the 60s. I picked the drug culture movement as my specific area of focus. He said I couldn't bring in LDS or LSP or something. Whatever. Anyway, I just wondered what it looked like from the viewpoint of a person living it, not just from history books. I want to concentrate on the idea of rebellion and anarchy in the period."
"Hmm, well, I can tell you that we didn't have a 'just say no' program in the 60's. My cousin Charlotte was a complete hippy. Very expand your mind, open your heart. I think if you did away with the drug culture of the 60's the entire dynamic would have been changed." she rests her chin on her hand and looks at him with a sly grin. "Now if you'd picked the 70's I could have really told you some stories...but..."
Jack grins. "Technically, the era we're covering is 1966-1971, but somehow I don't think that would have made much of a difference for you. Anyway, I'm just bouncing around ideas. Say, I wonder if as a field trip the Doctor would take us to the 60s. Might freak out Sam and John, though."
"Yeah, let's don't and say we did. If you want some good stories you should talk to Adam. He was a roadie for the Rolling Stones. He'd have something to say about 60's drug culture, I'm sure."
She winces inside at her slip, then forges ahead like she totally meant to. "Oh, yeah...he's a little bit older than me. I know how it is. All grown ups seem like the same age. Trust me though. He can tell you about the drug culture of the late 60's and early 70's. Really."
Jack thought about it, and shrugged, because, well, grownups. "I'll have to bug him about that." Sometime when I've done enough research on the topic myself. "So... what are the chances of waffles on Sunday?"
