The Library is Open (02/09)

Rory toddled sleepily into the library after ACJ, and took her usual position behind the desk.

Library's open. It has books. Go read or something.

"Yeah, I think so?" Rory guessed. "I think that was when I was stuck in bed. But Callynanders brought me stuff from it."

"Yeah, I didn't get to go either," Angela replied quietly. "I think I spent about half that weekend in the clinic with you guys."

"But I heard it was huge."

Rory nodded. "Lucky Jack. Are you going to go?"

"Probably? Unless something comes up between now and Monday. I like Jack, and I kind of want to see the hotel anyhow."

"What about you?"

"Probably," Rory nodded. "I'm not sure yet. Day before Valentine's Day, right? And that's something else I need to figure out."

"Oh, right," Angela said a little vaguely. "Because ... yes. That would be complicated."

""Do they have Valentine's Day on other planets," she asked innocuously.

"They might?" Rory guessed. "But not on some planets where some people are from. But you know how folks around here are nice and informative."

"And sometimes their information is even right," Angela agreed, remembering the Christmas pageant.

"So ... do you think you might have plans?"

"No idea. I mean, blah blah hypothetical, blah blah - I said it wasn't a big deal like twenty times," Rory shrugged. "But you know how he is. In theory, et cetera."

"Right. In theory, blah blah blah, some guys want to make a big deal out of it. And, yeah, he would probably be the type. Hypothetically."

She tilted her head to one side. "Do you think you can keep the hypothetical thing up until May?"

Rory shrugged. "I don't know. I mean, we can totally try, anyway. And right now it's the only thing we can do. If we find a way to, um, not be hypothetical? Totally taking it. But we've got nothing now."

Angela coughed and did not say anything, because the only thing she would have to say would be pointing out that the people who cared were ~~in a galaxy far, far, away~~ not exactly around.

"Mmm," she finally uttered. "Maybe something will come up."

"Maybe," Rory said with a slight smile. "Anyway. No V-Day plans that I know of. What about you? Another date?"

Angela looked ill at this. "No. No, no, no, no."

"I'll probably be ~~AFK~~ hiding in my dorm room, testing the human tolerance for Haagen-Dazs."

"It's pretty high," Rory said. "I know from experience. And I have a candy stash you're welcome to borrow from if you want. I'd join you, but...y'know, stuff we just talked about. If it turns out I don't have plans, ~~my mun will anyway so~~ I'll totally hide out with you."

"Cool. I'll probably brave town to get some supplies," Angela said, not exactly happily, but at least pleasantly. "And you never know, maybe my true love will swoop in over the weekend."

Rory almost said, "Maybe Marty will totally come to his senses, yes." But she didn't.

Instead she said, "That would be an amazing coincidence," and crossed her fingers.

Angela noticed the crossed fingers and gave Rory a skeptical look. "It would be. Plus, I've never had a bg romantic Valentine's Day thing. Have you?"

Rory shook her head. "Not really. I mean, Jess wasn't the type for that kind of thing, and Dean and I did kind of a low-key thing ~~because it was never shown on-screen, as my player recalls.~~ I don't know if I'd want to do anything big, you know? I mean, I'd rather it be kind of personal and sweet, rather than some big thing."

"Yeah, I didn't mean, like, big big. No thousand yellow daisies or whatever."

"Personal and sweet sounds really good."

Rory nodded. "That'd be cute - a thousand yellow daisies. I mean, not that I want that. But it'd be sweet for someone else, y'know?"

"If they had enough space. It'd look like sunshine."

"That happened to my mom once, actually. Like, almost that exact thing," Rory said in recognition. "When she got proposed to. Not by Luke."

Angela raised her eyebrows. "Oh? I thought she didn't marry your dad."

"She didn't," Rory said, shaking her head. "Luke's her first husband. But a couple years ago, she was involved with one of my teachers and they almost got married."
