Library, Friday [05/25]

Once Billy had gotten settled in behind the desk, he got onto the computer, and started researching everything he could find on goats. He didn't know if they'd be visiting again, and god knew that punching goats probably wasn't the normal way to handle them, but he liked being prepared just in case, okay?

Victor normally found books annoyingly analogue, but when you had four days off you had both time to explore, and time to read. He flashed a quick, uncertain smile when he spotted Billy at the check-out desk.

He figured this wasn't the Billy he'd met, but a familiar face was still a familiar face. Besides, it'd be nice to talk to any Billy when death was not imminent.

"Hey," he said. "Working on anything interesting?"

"I'll read anything about technology or superheroes," Victor offered, after thinking about it for a second. "And I hope we don't get goats again. Those things were worse than chupacabras are supposed to be."

He thought about it. "Except the not killing anybody part."

"We do. You're Electroclash's TA," Victor nodded, in a tone that implied he wasn't sure how anyone did that job. "And yeah, that's me. I met a different you for like ... three minutes back home, but it wasn't exactly a situation where people were chatting."

Which existed in their worlds in abundance, so Vic figured he wasn't spoiling anything by bringing that up.

"Hell no," Victor said strongly. "I'm not giving her any reason to test her powers on me again."

He thought he'd set up a firewall against the teacher's voice, but he preferred to go as long as possible without putting it into use.

"But yeah, my friends do pretty much what your friends do. Only in L.A., so we probably get lamer villains."

Victor nodded. "It feels further than New York did. I've never really been in a small town before."

His unfair conclusion: They were creepy.

"I still don't get the squirrels," Victor observed, leaning against the counter. "At first I figured they were droids or mutants or something, but from what I can tell they're just really nosy squirrels. But yeah, it feels like people end up knowing stuff even without their help."

"As okay as I'm going to be, yeah," Victor said. "I miss home, I miss my friends, but at least it's not boring. And the people here have been really nice, so that helps."

"I guess there aren't a whole lot of other choices," Victor mused. "How long have you been here, anyhow? You sound like an old hand."

Goats, much like ponies, had absolutely no business in a library, so the Librarian wasn't exactly in the best of moods today. It seemed that most of the things eaten by the goats had returned back to normal--thank goodness for small blessings!

He went about reorganizing things in his office amid murmured grunts and sighs that involved a lot of lip, though, occasionally, there was a hint of his side-ways banana smile when he thought about when he gave a few of them a nice good punching.
