Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 10, Period 1, 02.09.06

[OOC: After Tuesday? Easy class. Have fun. No real need to take notes, even though Tick mentions it, and no real need to keep the chatter at a minimum. I kind of want to know what happens in the episode by the time class is done, so chatter away. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was standing at the podium when the class walked in. Lockheed was in the back of the room with popcorn.

"Okay, class! After the... fun of Tuesday's class," Tick began, abusing sarcasm on the word "fun," "I thought it would be a good idea to slow things down, take it a little easy, and do a few little things today. Most importantly, at the end of class, Rory will be giving you a writing assignment. Yes, class, you will have an essay to do."

"Before that, though, we will be watching an episode of Crime & Punishment which starts with Detectives Larry Boscoe and Mark Loggin investigating a murder in a hotel. Please take some notes on how the different branches of Justice are portrayed in the series and keep the chatter at a minimum."

"But before we do that, I have something brief I would like everyone to do. It's voluntary, but I really would appreciiate it if everyone did it. For both my sake and yours, I would like you to take a vow in the name of this class. You too, Rory."

[Continued in the OCD threads which will be up in a moment are up. Rory will have her own thread for the writing assignment, so watch for that. Writing assignment is up. Give it to Rory by next Thursday.

And now there is toast. You know what kind.]

Bridge listens to the Tick's request, and then shrugs to himself and stands up.

"I, Bridge Carson, SPD Cadet, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

He doesn't add that the likelihood of anyone talking him out of something he's set his mind to is slim to none, but he sees the logic in at least letting his teacher *try*, if it came to that. Plus, pointers are always good. He also considers asking what's expected in a situation where immediate action needs to be taken, and there's no *time* for a 48-hour notice, but he doesn't actually ask.

[ooc: holy crap going to sleep now kthxbai *thud*]

Callisto stood and recited the vow.

"I, Callisto, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

She mave have a) sounded like each word was being extracted with dental pliers and b) been crossing her fingers behind her back.

"Sir, I won't say that." Angel stood up because this was another one of those moments when standing was called for. "Either coming to you is a good idea or a bad idea. If it's bad, I'm not going to ignore that. If it's good, then it's good regardless of how many students are helping me, how bad the danger is, or whether or not I parroted some words that don't mean nearly as much as actions do.

"No disrespect intended," Angel said. "I get what you're trying to say. But a vow won't make me change how I feel. If I come to you, you'll know it's because I trust you, not because you made me recite a pledge."

"I do get that you're here to help," Angel replied. "That's why I don't need a vow to want to come to you in the future."

"I, Marty Blank, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

Sam wonders if this counts since he's not really Marty...

Sam stood at attention and had to restrain herself from saluting Professor Tick automatically.

"I, Samantha Carter, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

She then looked around the classroom and counted heads, to see exactly how many people from the class could be involved before she violated the vow. Plus, there was always the option of asking people outside of class.

Aeryn's not going to do this one, though she has no problem with anyone else doing it. "No offense meant, sir. I'm just not getting caught on saying that on camera if circumstances dictate that we can't say anything for some reason."

"I, Parker, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelihood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased." Parker paused. "Sir? This is, of course, with the caveat that *I* have 48 hours notice that I'm about ot risk my life and the lives of others. I swear I'll try to at least call, though."

Parker's mostly sincere about this. And she figures, if it *really* is something she doesn't want Professor Tick to know about, she can always blame it on her cell.

Rory stood, looking sleepy and crossing her arms self-consciously around herself.

"I, Rory Gilmore, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

She practically leapt back into her seat, face red.

Anakin looked deeply uncomfortable. "I would like to take the vow, sir, but there's no way to know what will happen in the future. I'd rather not take the vow at all then give my word and then try to come up with some kind of deception or lie by omission to worm my way out of it if circumstances dictated." He met the Tick's eyes. "I think it would be more honest for me to say that I have learned that there is an authority figure other than Obi-Wan I can come to in difficult circumstances. I'll remember that in the future."

"I --" begins Archie, but he's not sure he can make this vow in good conscience, so he snaps his mouth shut and just stands awkwardly at attention, fidgeting.

Not that I would necessarily even know about such a plot myself, of course."

She may be glaring at several of the other students. Besides, she tended to work alone herself, so this shouldn't be a problem for her.

Cameron's kinda feeling stubborn and wants to suggest that it'd be better to make people promise to not go in alone and unprepared. Instead, he keeps his mouth shut.

"I, Veronica Mars, hereby solemnly vow that if I plot with more than a quarter of the students in this class to do something that could in all likelyhood result in my death or the death of others, I will give Professor Tick at least 48 hours notice so that he may either talk me out of my crazed plan or at least offer advice so that the potential for death can be decreased."

Veronica figures there's no harm in taking the vow, since Marty is the only person in the class she's ever plotted with and that was just a simple B&E.
