Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III
Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!
[OCD is up, have at it! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Because that was a brilliant plan, yes!
"You should...probably not do that," Sholeh offered. "It would make a terrible mess and would be a waste of food besides."
And then she realized she was sounding like her mother, Medusa, and made a face.
"...If you're going to waste food anyway, you should have a food fight, instead. More fun for everyone."
Sholeh wasn't entirely sure she'd be up to participating in a food fight--that was more Zeela's style than hers--but suggesting one stopped her from sounding like a stuffy old lady. That nagged.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"What, you mean, just, like... take a burrito and... chuck it at someone?"
Because Sparkle was totally picking up a burrito and heaving it up and down in his hand, getting a feel for the weight of it, and possible aerodynamics.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
And yet, there it was.
There was a time and place for insatiable curiosity, Sholeh. Now was not that time.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
And then he threw the burrito at her.
LOOK, IT HAD BEEN HER IDEA.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
=I could have caught that,= Zeela said. She would have rolled her eyes if she'd had them right now. =You should have caught that. A child of ten could have caught that.=
*That's enough, Zeela,* Zhahar scolded. *Sholeh, this is why you don't suggest foodfights, okay? I just hope you're not--*
Sholeh reached for the table full of food, grabbing a handful of cookies and started flinging them back at Sparkle.
*--going to retaliate.* Zhahar finished with a sigh. *When you get in trouble with the teachers, don't say I didn't tell you so.*
"I'm covered in burrito!" Sholeh yelped, ignoring her sisters. Though Zeela was cheering her on.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Sparkle laughed as he was pelted with cookies, yes, making a reach for a fistful of nachos and flinging them in a corn-chip rain toward the girl.
"What better way to introduce you to them, right? Right?"
Ooo, taquitos. Those looked nice and aerodynamic, too.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST!"
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"... You saying you want me to keep throwing things?"
Because the churros were actually pretty tasty, and he didn't want to throw those, really.
"Because I can probably hunt down a chalupa no problem, you know."
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"You don't have to," Sholeh assured him. "I'd be okay if you just started telling me what everything is instead? And then I could launder this dress instead of keep the stains on it for future reference."
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Whatever it was, it was good.
"Only not all donut-shaped.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"Donuts are round with a hole in the middle, like someone took one of these things and then connected the ends to one another."
She better graze faster, because Sparkle was filling his plate with more of them.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"Are there donuts anywhere?" she asked. "I'd like to try one of those, too!"
And maybe sneak a few of those in her bag, if they were as tasty as the churros.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Still not a Tim's to be seen, though. Blasphemy. Pure blasphemy.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
She examined the food on the table, but there wasn't a single, unifying theme that she could see. "I would think it means spicy, but the churros are sweet. And the nachos are salty. Is Mexican just foods that ended in o, like churro, nacho, taquito, and avacado? Wait, no, you said the sauce was gwaka-something. Maybe avacados are Mexican, so the gwaka stuff counts?"
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"Uh... Mexican just means that it's food that comes from Mexico," Sparkle replied. "But hey, it's a good guess. I mean, if I didn't know better, I might guess the same."
... No, probably not.
"Anyhow, Mexico's got plenty of stuff that doesn't end in o. Like quesadillas and chimichangas and... chalupas and gorditas and a lot of other crap they put on a Taco Bell menu."
Chihuahuas. Delicious, delicious chihuahuas.
"Regional cuisine, like how Canada's is... poutine. And maple syrup. And, Tim Horton's coffee and I don't know. Beaver Tails."
Yeah, that one wouldn't cause any confusion.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
She was loving it. Barely here more than an hour and already she was learning so much.
"Mexico? Taco Bell? Canada? Beaver tails?" She was scrunching her face at that one. "People really eat beaver tails? I guess they are really big..." She reached out to latch onto Sparkle's arm if he'd let her. "Show me those other things! The kessa-dayas, and the chimichongs and the chalupitas and everything else!"
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
"Okay, first of all, beaver tails are like this fried pastry with sugar on them. Not actual beaver tails, yuck." He was being nice because she'd let him throw crap at her, here. "Those things over there are the quesadillas. The flat ones, see?" He pointed with his... plate, actually, since she'd claimed his arm. "Chimichangas. Chalupas."
And then one broad, sweeping gesture at the rest of the table.
"Everything else."
He was the most helpful. Ever.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Sholeh made a face at that so-helpful 'everything else' there, but she had walked into that. She let go of his arm to grab several of the things he'd pointed at, piling them on a plate and proceeding not to eat them, but to open them up and dissect them. She wanted to know what they were made of!
Mostly roasted meats, cheese, and spices, wrapped up in a thin bread-like thing but still! It was all very interesting.
"This is so fascinating," she said, managing to get yet more food all over her as she examined a chalupa. "It's like a whole meal wrapped in bread!"

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
Duh, Sparkle. Duh.
Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]
SANDWICHES. Sparkle was totally using trick questions, now! Take that, Sholeh!
