Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here and there's more room for mingling here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]
solarhippie: ([neu] And the plan is what?)

Karolina took a while to pick out the vegan options from the food tables, then set out just wandering around with her yummy meatless Mexican food, looking around a little curiously.

With everything going on, she'd almost forgotten what it was like to be in a big crowd of teenagers. Or at a school event, for that matter.

"I have figured it out," Peeta announced once he spotted Karolina. "You are the one from the normal place and I am from the weird country no one has heard of."
solarhippie: ([pos] Light breeze.)

"Well," Karolina offered with a little smile, "if it's any consolation, I think I'm a few years in the future?"

So Fandom was getting to them already.

"I'm from the future too," Peeta shared. "So far I'm beating you on the outsider scale."

Oh if he only knew.
solarhippie: ([neu] Do you need advice?)

Yeah, Karolina did her best to not look wryly doubtful at that. "Maybe," she said, while firmly thinking nuh uh. He could try again when he wasn't human.

... Not that she really knew for sure whether he was human or not, because he probably couldn't tell about her, either. But still. "So did you get the talk about all the... talking pink ponies and stuff?"

[identity profile] district12baker.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've got enough talk to decide that I'm not writing home about any of this," Peeta said. "Though I missed out on the ponies."
solarhippie: ([neu] Guys it might not work.)

"Apparently there's supposed to be one that might offer us cupcakes." She looked a little like she was ashamed of herself for believing that, but she did. "I haven't seen it, or, uh, her. Yet."

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] district12baker.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I appreciate the heads up on that," he said. "I would have been wary about accepting cupcakes from a pony otherwise."

No, he would have still eaten one. Just to see if it was good compared to what he baked.
solarhippie: ([neu] Yeaaah I am not sure.)

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you think she bakes them herself?" Karolina wondered, because she thought about these things. "You'd think it'd be hard with, you know, having hooves and everything."

[identity profile] district12baker.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"...yeah I don't see how that would be possible," Peeta said, looking like he was really thinking about that. "Buying them also seems a little implausible but maybe we shouldn't be questioning the logic of the cupcake bearing pony."
solarhippie: ([pos] Easier when you are smiling.)

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, but I think I'm coming up to my limit of just taking things as they come, today," Karolina admitted with a little laugh. "I have to try applying logic to some things before my brain gives out."

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] district12baker.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fair enough," Peeta said, chuckling. "I don't think this has all hit me yet. Kind of feels like a really detailed dream."
solarhippie: ([pos] Are you for real?)

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, if it is one, I think I've been having it for a few months already." And man, wouldn't it have been nice to wake up and realize the last months had just been in her head? She didn't let that affect her smile. "I don't know, I'm sure we'll get used to it."

So, basically, this girl just looked to Stacey like someone she'd want to be friends with. That was pretty much her entire reasoning for coming over and saying, "Hi! You're one of the new kids, right? What do you think so far?"
solarhippie: ([pos] Easier when you are smiling.)

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It was great reasoning! Well, at least for Karolina who honestly tended to have that same kind of logic.

"Hi," she said, smiling because why wouldn't she? Nice people deserved to get smiled at. "And uh, it seems ––" Odd. "–– interesting?"

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeeeeah, there's that," she said, and brightened again. "It gets more normal as you go along. I'm Stacey, by the way."
solarhippie: ([pos] Yes I am pretty cute.)

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Karolina," she replied, brushing hair away from her face. "Is the new kid shine so obvious or do you just know everyone who goes here already?"

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't really know everyone, but I try to keep an eye out for people." She tended to scope out both boys and cool people in general like it was an Olympic sport most of the time. "So it's just a little easier to tell who's new. You don't scream 'newbie' or anything."
solarhippie: ([pos] You are sweet.)

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Karolina chuckled a little. "Well, that's good." She felt awkward and weird enough about being here without standing out too badly as a new kid, thanks. Especially since she thought lighting up like a Christmas tree for the first time on-island would probably end up doing that well enough, anyway.

The thought made her absently fiddle with her MedAlert bracelet. "So... How's the school? My new brother mostly told me about the weird stuff."

Re: General Mingling [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Stacey rolled her eyes a little. "I still think the weird stuff gets blown a little out of proportion. I've hardly had to deal with it, I swear," she assured her. This was why she still sort of thought Topher was lying to her about all that stuff.

"But the school's pretty great," she went on. "No one really cares what you do, you barely have to go to class, there are great parties and everyone's really nice. It's way better than real school."

Though she missed real math class.
solarhippie: ([pos] Kind of curious.)

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Karolina raised her eyebrows. "That does sound pretty good," she had to admit. Especially to someone like her, who hadn't exactly been going to school for a while now, and didn't really miss it. "I mean, I was expecting something a little, I don't know, stricter."

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, we had that, for a week. Literally a week," Stacey told her. "The school board made us be all normal while they were here, girls who roomed with guys had to move... And then when they left we threw the uniforms on a bonfire, so there went that."
solarhippie: ([pos] Open and unpretentious.)

[personal profile] solarhippie 2012-05-05 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"This place is weird."

She was yet to decide whether that was a good thing or not. Though there was a not insignificant chance that she herself would not be a particularly weird thing, here. And that fell on the good side of the scale.

"But I don't know. I think I... might like it not being normal."

[identity profile] ihavediabetes.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"It takes some getting used to, but I really like it," Stacey told her. "Though it's a little weird to try and explain to people back home. Like, a few of the clubs did a fashion show to benefit the starving Belgians of 1915. Where else do you get to do that? Nowhere, which is why my emails get edited down."
solarhippie: ([neu] You said something?)

Karolina thought about that. "That might actually almost make sense to my friends back home," she decided, since Gert's parents had ben time travelers, and all. "I mean, time travel's a thing back there too. I really don't know about the talking pony, though."
