Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Some extra tables had been set up in the shade of the trees on the lawn, away from the buffet in spots where it might be less crowded and much quieter. Well, aside from the mariachi band, but at least their music was entertaining? They might even take requests!

"Do you think she bakes them herself?" Karolina wondered, because she thought about these things. "You'd think it'd be hard with, you know, having hooves and everything."

"...yeah I don't see how that would be possible," Peeta said, looking like he was really thinking about that. "Buying them also seems a little implausible but maybe we shouldn't be questioning the logic of the cupcake bearing pony."

"I know, but I think I'm coming up to my limit of just taking things as they come, today," Karolina admitted with a little laugh. "I have to try applying logic to some things before my brain gives out."

"Fair enough," Peeta said, chuckling. "I don't think this has all hit me yet. Kind of feels like a really detailed dream."

"Well, if it is one, I think I've been having it for a few months already." And man, wouldn't it have been nice to wake up and realize the last months had just been in her head? She didn't let that affect her smile. "I don't know, I'm sure we'll get used to it."

Peeta nodded in agreement. "I'm sure the surreal vibe will wear off. It's already an improvement from District 12, so I'm not complaining."

"So that's really not anywhere around here, huh?" Karolina asked, tilting her head a bit. "District 12, I mean. That must be weird. Even if it is an improvement."

"It's actually almost exactly around here," Peeta said. "Panem is North America after a bunch of wars and natural disasters destroyed it. I think I'm from the way, way future since everything here seems to be in tact."

"More or less." She was highly aware of pollution issues and the like. "I'd hope it's way, way in the future, at least."

"I hope so too It's not exactly the easier place to live in, even after all the wars stopped," he said. "Which is why I'm glad to be here, weird ponies or not."

"Well, good for you," Karolina said, and meant it sincerely. "Welcome to the past, we have talking ponies. And really rude talking cats. And cupcakes, but I haven't seen any yet so those might just be an urban legend."

Hey, attempt at a joke.

Peeta laughed a little. "Well if the cupcakes do turn out to be a myth I think I can do something to change that if the proper ingredients are around. Baking runs in the family."

You know, if the name didn't give it away.

Karolina was yet to notice the pun there, sadly. "Really?" she asked. "Well if that's the case, I'm pretty sure ingredients could be arranged. Because I love cupcakes."

And baking was a much better family trait than being an alien. Yeah, she was biased against herself.

"I'd hate to meet the person who doesn't like cupcakes," Peeta said. "If only because I'd have no way to impress them 'cause I'm kind of lacking in the talent department."

At least he was aware enough to admit it.

"Aw, I'm sure that's not true," Karolina said, and meant it. She was like that. "I think everyone has a little more than that going for them, whether they realize it or not."

This from the girl who mostly thought her talents were limited to good vegetarian cooking... and the whole sparkly flying thing, which she wasn't sure she'd entirely accepted as a talent yet.

"That's very nice of you." Peeta wasn't really used to that kind of optimism coming from people. "And you're probably right, I just haven't had a lot of chances to, you know, discover talent."

"Well, this is kind of starting to look like the place to do that," Karolina offered with a smile. "Even if they might be pink pony related talents."
