Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Vestara wasn't sure about this particular ceremony, but then she thought the sort of education she'd had (hint: it was the Sith kind) had been far more important, and didn't involve silly robes. But it was also one step closer to bringing Ben back with them, and then her plan could work so much better. And maybe she'd missed him.

No, she would not be happy to find out about any future plans of him.

Luke sat next to her and kept an eye out for familiar faces. With this many timelines intersecting, the Force only knew how many relatives he'd see.

Well, he wasn't a relative. Did that put Tony ahead of the pack? No? No. Damn.

"You're... Ben's dad? One of them?"

God damn it, Skywalkers/Solos.

"I'm Luke," he said with a nod. "Are you one of Ben's friends?"

"One of them," Tony replied with a twitch at the corner of his mouth that was vaguely grin-like as he offered a hand to shake. "Tony Stark."

"It's nice to finally meet you, Tony," Luke said, shaking hands. "Ben's mentioned you."

"Likewise," Tony replied. "And your--friend?"

He was being nice. As Vestara was creepy.

"Vestara Khai," Luke said. "From the lost Tribe of the Sith. I'm keeping an eye on her."

Or holding her hostage. One of those.

"How... nice." Or something like that. "Excited to see Ben graduate?"

At that, Vestara leaned forward a little to get a better look at the speaker.

And to better hear what he might say with that opening.

And to possibly judge him based on what he said.

Hello... random scary chick. Tony waved vaguely over at her, offering a smile.

Because he was a moron.

The little scar at the corner of her mouth might have given the impression that she was smirking... but she wasn't.

She was raising an appraising eyebrow, though, and definitely going to eavesdrop.

"Ben's dad!" Topher announced, after overhearing Tony say it first. "Helloooo."

He was maybe being a little obvious about how he was scoping Luke out. Like a weirdo.

Luke was maybe wondering a bit about the kid of people Ben seemed to attract. "Hello."

"What's up?" Quit bouncing, Topher.

"Well, my son's graduating from high school," Luke offered with a small smile. "I'm told that's a big deal."

"Especially here," Topher said with a solemn nod. "Inevitable monster invasion and all that."

He'd done his research.

"Sounds like just another day at the office for Ben," Luke said.

"Who are you?"

That was not polite, Topher.

Off to a great start, really.

"Someone who's already not very impressed with you," Vestara replied easily.

Destined for best friendship, these two.

"You're related to Ben," Topher concluded logically, "'cause of how you're with his dad."

Wroooong.

"Then who do you think I am, if that's how you make decisions?" she asked, maybe looking for him to give himself enough rope to hang him on.

"...someone related to Ben," Topher said slowly.

Oh dear.

Topher, you were going to end up killed by Vestara's brain because a lightsaber was too obvious.

"Between your social and deduction skills, your peers must be so envious of you," she said.

"Only the slow ones," Topher claimed loftily. "So yeah. Mostly."
