Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 1)

With things back to normal - or as normal as Fandom ever got - preparations for graduation had gone into full swing. The ceremony was set for right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, and the lawn had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths in which to walk to the seating area and giving everything a twinkling, serene appearance.

Of course, the staff knew that graduation was rarely a serene event, and the fact that Ingvar's volcano was being unusually active emphasized the need to prepare the seniors as much as possible. Last year's cache of weapons had been discreetly stashed in a trunk behind the podium...and yes, they'd all been properly cleaned. Who knew what dried Viking blood could do to metal?

Once everything had been arranged, the guests were let in, and all that was left was to pray everything went smoothly.

Annie had not stopped smiling since she put on her cap and gown. Sure, her parents weren't here. Sure, she'd be gone from here by this time next week. But right now, she was graduating, and it was a major thing, and it was exciting.

Sure, if anything attacked she might have the minorest of breakdowns at things being ruined, but for now...

Ben gave her a reassuring smile as he adjusted his stupid hat in a vain attempt to make it look less stupid.

"If we get attacked early, get behind me," he said with a nod. "I have my lightsaber."

Of course, Ben's idea of reassuring wasn't everyone's...

"What do you mean attacked? No attacked. It's graduation."

"Right," Ben said, nodding. "It's graduation. Something always goes wrong."

We all know, Annie. The caps and gowns were a tipoff.
