The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

For once, Jeremy actually came into the gym on purpose when the club fair was being set up. There was at least one club he knew he wanted to sign up for, after all.

So, he grabbed himself a copy of the club schedule, and set out to explore his options.

[OCD up!]

While Britta was still a little skeptical about the club and the whole idea of there being sign-ups and leaders and advisers, she was there, hoping history didn't repeat itself, but, if it did, maybe she'd get kicked out of the school and could finally go join the Peace Corps.

Plus, Jim brought cupcakes.

Now granted Matt was technically blind however he did have senses granted to him from a horrible accident that would allow him to... well say recognize a girl he might have talked to before.

He pretended to have his cane hit the booth's table lightly so he could turn toward it.

"Sorry about that," he said aloud. "What club is this for?"

"Matt!" Britta's eyes widened a little as she went to hastily wipe the cupcake frosting she knew was on the corner of her mouth away and, halfway through it, realized it was stupid because it wasn't like Matt could see it anyway. Good. That meant Matt would also not see her ceremoniously wiping what she wiped off her mouth onto her jeans. "Hi! Oh, don't worry about it. How are you? This here's the booth for Anarchist Philanthropists. You know, doing good to spite The Man trying to hold everyone down! When the system pushes its corruption and deception on the downtrodden, we push back! Want a cupcake?"

"Sure! Is this how we're taking down the man?" Matt joked. "By handing out cupcakes? Because I don't think that's ever been tried before."

"It's a start, anyway," said Britta, plucking up a cupcake and being very careful in guiding it to where Matt's hand might find it. "They're all Jim's idea. It's definitely going to escalate into, you know, food drives and building habitats, fund raisers and putting together guerrilla warfare kits, stuff like that."

"Well it sounds like it's for a good cause," Matt said being careful to bungle the handoff of the cupcake slightly so he got frosting on his hand. "I may not be able to participate in all the activities but I'd like to sign up for it if it's not too much trouble."

Britta was quick to procure a napkin from...somewhere. "Here, you might need this," she said. "The frosting on these things seems to be going everywhere. Let me help. Not that you need it, of course."

Geez, JIM. Learn to frost a cupcake, right? So messy.

"And of course it's not too much trouble," Britta said with a firm determination. "In fact, we would be honored to have you aboard, Matt. I'm sure even if you help in just a little bit, that's a great big fat right hook to The Man.

"Oh, thank you," Matt said letting his hand be taken and cleaned.

And thank you JIM for frosting the cupcake.

"You know, I'm thinking of going into pre-law at Columbia when I graduate," Matt added. "I've been reading various textbooks on the subject. At least I might be able to determine the best course of legal actions for... well if we take a more anarchistic approach to fighting the man."

Thank goodness Britta was so bad at jokes that something about justice being blind didn't even enter her field of possible comments.

"What, you mean like picking out loopholes and stuff?" She didn't sound very convinced, though. The illegality was part of the appeal to anarchy, wasn't it, even if anything they had planned for the club itself was mostly legal.

So far. The urge to return to her days of defacing public property would always be strong. It would probably be ood to have someone around to make sure she didn't wind up in jail, though.

"If you want," Matt said with a shrug. "Maybe only if we need it for some reason? I'm sure our teaching advisors wouldn't let us do anything too illegal."

Clearly Matt has not met Jamie Madrox or Pinkie Pie.

"You know that just sounds like a challenge, right?" Britta asked, just to make sure. Especially since she'd been given the impression that mostly everyone was here because of something illegal or the threat of eventually doing something illegal.

Matt had to laugh at that. "You just like bucking the system, don't you?"

"Anything wrong with that?" Britta asked with a grin. "Someone's got to do it."

"Hello," Elphaba greeted Britta, looking about at the table. "What exactly is an anarchist philanthropist?"

It seemed to take a second for Britta's brain to start on this one, mostly because it was being confirmed that Elphaba really was green and it wasn't just the pot.

"Heyyyy," she said, once things got going in there, a bit overly friendly to make up for it, "you."

To be fair, when Britta had met the other girl, she had been in a little bit of a drug-induced haze, and Elphaba wasn't exactly a name that just rolled off the tongue from memory.

"I'd offer a cupcake, but I'm not sure if they're vegan." At least she remembered that part? "An it's easy, really. It's doing good thing for people that The Man has stepped on. It's standing up for equality, despite the massive push of capitalist and ideologue jerkwads who try to keep others down with all their power-hungry, war-mongering bullshit. Pretty cool, huh?"

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"That sounds very cool," Elphaba admitted, even if she found 'cool' such an odd term. "And exactly the sort of thing I wouldn't mind being associated with. I just sign up here?"

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"That's right!" said Britta, with an enthusiastic nod, but then she shrugged her shoulders. "Or don't. I mean, anarchists, right? So don't feel obligated to have to sign your name like some sort of contract; I know I wouldn't."

Elphaba raised an eyebrow. "But you're sitting right here for the group," she said, not quite understanding.

"Well, yeah," said Britta, "but you don't see my name on the list, do you?"

And, leaning over for a better look, she saw her name actually was on top under the student leaders. "Oh. I guess it is. Well, I didn't put it there. The only reason we even have leaders is because the school said we had to."

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"But in practice no one is in charge?" Elphaba said, amused. She reached over to actually sign up properly. "Well, I'll save the creative anarchy for when we actually meet."

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," Britta nodded. "Kind of defeats the whole purpose."

And hopefully prevented anyone trying to vote her out for not being anarchist enough.

"Either way, good to have you on board..." Now that the name was written, Britta could steal a quick look and pretend like she never forgot, "Elphaba!"

"I look forward to seeing more of you. Our not-fearless not-actually leader," Elphaba teased. "Britta."

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I'd say I'm pretty fearless," said Britta. "It's just the leader part that a little questionable, and intentionally so. I believe humankind need not be governed."

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I think my father the governor might disagree," Elphaba said, smirking. "But I often think him wrong about many things. I wouldn't mind hearing more about your ideals, actually. So it's a good thing I signed up for the group."

[identity profile] shestheworst.livejournal.com 2012-01-21 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course he's say that if he's the one governing," Britta reasoned, but she smiled, too. "And it'll be nice to have someone who'll actually listen for a change, too."

Encouraging her. Bad, Elphaba! Bad!
