The Club Fair, Gym, Friday Afternoon

For once, Jeremy actually came into the gym on purpose when the club fair was being set up. There was at least one club he knew he wanted to sign up for, after all.

So, he grabbed himself a copy of the club schedule, and set out to explore his options.

[OCD up!]

"Well it sounds like it's for a good cause," Matt said being careful to bungle the handoff of the cupcake slightly so he got frosting on his hand. "I may not be able to participate in all the activities but I'd like to sign up for it if it's not too much trouble."

Britta was quick to procure a napkin from...somewhere. "Here, you might need this," she said. "The frosting on these things seems to be going everywhere. Let me help. Not that you need it, of course."

Geez, JIM. Learn to frost a cupcake, right? So messy.

"And of course it's not too much trouble," Britta said with a firm determination. "In fact, we would be honored to have you aboard, Matt. I'm sure even if you help in just a little bit, that's a great big fat right hook to The Man.

"Oh, thank you," Matt said letting his hand be taken and cleaned.

And thank you JIM for frosting the cupcake.

"You know, I'm thinking of going into pre-law at Columbia when I graduate," Matt added. "I've been reading various textbooks on the subject. At least I might be able to determine the best course of legal actions for... well if we take a more anarchistic approach to fighting the man."

Thank goodness Britta was so bad at jokes that something about justice being blind didn't even enter her field of possible comments.

"What, you mean like picking out loopholes and stuff?" She didn't sound very convinced, though. The illegality was part of the appeal to anarchy, wasn't it, even if anything they had planned for the club itself was mostly legal.

So far. The urge to return to her days of defacing public property would always be strong. It would probably be ood to have someone around to make sure she didn't wind up in jail, though.

"If you want," Matt said with a shrug. "Maybe only if we need it for some reason? I'm sure our teaching advisors wouldn't let us do anything too illegal."

Clearly Matt has not met Jamie Madrox or Pinkie Pie.

"You know that just sounds like a challenge, right?" Britta asked, just to make sure. Especially since she'd been given the impression that mostly everyone was here because of something illegal or the threat of eventually doing something illegal.

Matt had to laugh at that. "You just like bucking the system, don't you?"

"Anything wrong with that?" Britta asked with a grin. "Someone's got to do it."

"I have nothing against anyone who tries to make the world a better place," Matt replied sincerely. "I find it rather inspiring in a way."

It really was a shame that Matt couldn't see how much that made Britta beam with pride, but maybe he could feel it radiating off of her, or something. "Me, too. You know, I think you're going to be great for this club, Matt. And, hey, speaking of a better place, me and some chick from my Not So Cleverly Disguised Home Ec class are high tailing it up to New York for some fun tomorrow. Want to come along? Maybe it'll be good to have a native on hand."

"Sounds like fun," Matt said with a grin. "Who's coming along with you?"

"Oh, man," Britta said, shaking her head. "Crap, you know, I can't actually remember her name...oh, wait. Hold on. It started with an R. Rachel? Ramona? Rebecca! That was it. Rebecca."

Maybe?

Names were clearly not important.

Matt's face went into a frown.

"Rebecca Logan? I'll pass," he said holding up his hand in a no-thank-you gesture. "She's my roommate. We don't exactly get along very well."
