Library, Thursday [01/19]

Technically, Billy was where he was supposed to be, settled in behind the front desk in the library. The fact that he was sitting on the floor, wrapped up in a blanket with a stack of comic books was just a result of the week he'd had so far. There'd been intoxication and thievery from hot Mounties and half-ownership of a penguin and look, it was his shift, and he could build himself a blanket fort if he wanted to.

He's got to come out from under the blanket at some point.

So Topher wasn't really the library-visiting type. Yeah, occasionally he wanted to stock up on comics or something, but for the most part he avoided places with that many printed books.

But the prissy Canadian radio girl had mentioned something about Billy working here, and it wasn't like Topher had anything better to do today, so...

"Biiiiiiiilly?" he called, leaning over the desk. "-- oh! Dude! Cool fort!"

Easily entertained, this one.

Billy pulled back the blanket enough to peer up, and grinned at Topher. "Hey! Uh, thanks," he said. "It's kind of cold out." That sounded like a good explanation to him, at least.

"It is!" Topher agreed. "Can I --?" he started, gesturing to the blanket. Because come on, who could resist the dorky allure of a blanket fort?

It took a moment for Billy to interpret the gesture, and then he laughed and nodded. "Sure. It's big enough for two," he said, pushing his comics out of the way and holding the blanket out so there was room for Topher beside him.

"Awesome," Topher declared, climbing on in and taking a seat. "Dude. This is awesome."

It was a blanket, Topher.

"It's just a blanket," Billy said self-deprecatingly. After a moment, he remembered he was here to do a job. "Hey, did you come in to look for something?"

"Nope." Psh. Books were lame, okay. Billy was less lame.

"Oooh," Topher said, spotting the comics, "what are you reading?"

Billy smiled and handed the pile over to Topher to look through. "I've got some new stuff, and I'm catching up on some old issues of things too. It's usually pretty quiet in here, so I have a lot of time to read."

"Cool," Topher said, flipping through. He was easily entertained. "Oh, this one's really good," he said, pointing to one of the comics. "I was all, 'Whaaaat? Crazy.'"

Very informative, Topher.

Billy laughed, reading over Topher's shoulder. "I should have known you'd be into comics. When are you going to run another D&D game? It'll be even more fun without imminent doom on us."

"I thought the imminent doom added something," Topher contributed helpfully.

"Well, it got us all in one place, at least," Billy said. "But it'd be nice to get to play without wondering if players are going to be missing the next day. Not that that's ever really a given around here, I guess."

"They could be rodents," Topher suggested. "Or hungover. Or hiding in general."

All valid reasons for being missing, yes.

"I'm glad you're human again, by the way," Billy said with a laugh. "And I'm glad we're both not hungover anymore. We have got to start leaving our wallets at home when we go places with Bobby and Tony."

Topher's eyes went wide. "But then where would we get penguins? And texts like these?" he asked, passing Billy his phone.

Billy's face turned increasingly red as he read the texts. "Yeah, you're a lot more...open about things when you're drunk, that's true," he said, pausing for a moment. "Did Tony really say you have skills?"

LOOK, HE HAD TO KNOW NOW.

Topher ~~NOT WESLEY OMG~~ grinned shyly. "Yeah," he admitted. "Other things too. But."

"That's good to know. For you," Billy blurted out. "For the future. In case you get to do it again. For which I kind of hate you."

"Did you do... like, anything?" Topher asked curiously. Because this was a totally appropriate conversation.

"We just made out," Billy said. It was totally appropriate to commiserate after a weekend of craziness! "Which was still pretty awesome. I don't think I'd have known what to do if he wanted me to...you know. Or maybe I would have, in my crazy state, I don't know."

"It's not that hard," Topher encouraged. Then he snorted. "I mean."

Billy giggled in a completely inappropriate way. "If it's not hard, you're not doing it right?"

"I'm pretty positive I did it right," Topher informed him. Helpfully.

"If you made Tony happy, then you totally did it right," Billy said with a nod. "Even if it was a weekend where everyone was nuts. It still counts, somehow."

"That's sorta what I was thinking," Topher agreed, counting on the blanket overhead to mask his slight blush. "I mean. He probably appreciated it! Even after the fact!"

Oh god, these boys.

"I'm sure he did, even if he did end up with Stephanie anyway," Billy said, trying to be reassuring.

"Think they do that a lot?" Topher wondered. Because he was a freaking weirdo.

"Ew," Billy said, wrinkling his nose. "Probably, but I don't want to think about that."

"Ugh, yeah," Topher agreed. "Even if he said he hasn't done, like, everything. It's still gross."

Meanwhile, in room 308...

Mercy was here with Billy's favorite hot beverage. She couldn't help but laugh at the blanket fort, and waved the cup outside so the smell could lure him out.

Billy peeked out from under the blanket, sniffing the air. "Hey, that's cheating," he said, smirking at Mercy.

"I'm a total cheater," she said with a straight face as she handed him the cup. "Just wanted to stop by to make sure you were still alive and all."

"Yes, I'm still alive," Billy said, taking the cup with a grateful smile. "Now I'll be alive and even warmer, thank you."

"What else is a roommate good for?" she said with a smile. "But I'm starting to think you guys need a keeper."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Billy said, ducking back under the blanket like a shameful person. "We did nothing wrong!"

Mercy couldn't stop the grin. "Maybe not wrong... At least I'm getting a lot of amusement out of your voice messages."

"I'm leaving my phone in the room next time," Billy said sheepishly. "I think I promised to steal a Mountie for Kenzi."

"Keeeee-perrr," Mercy singsonged.

"Hush!" Billy said, from underneath the blanket again. "I am fully capable of taking care of myself!"

Said the boy hiding in a fort.

"Oh yes, I can see that, Blanket Fort Boy," Mercy teased.

"It's nice and warm in here!" Billy said, peeking out at Mercy again. "And if I never got drunk, I wouldn't own a penguin. I mean, I don't really own the penguin, I guess, since it's not here, but it's still mine in general."

"Roommate goes all the way to - where did you go again?" Mercy asked teasingly. "And not only didn't he buy me a penguin, I didn't even get a stupid t-shirt!"

"We went to...somewhere in Canada I can't pronounce," Billy said. "And we didn't get to keep the penguins, much to Topher's sadness."

"You guys are crazy," Mercy said fondly. "And I suppose you needed to do something to get over last weekend."

If she's pinged in!

I don't get to use that icon enough, really.
