Superheroing 101, Thursday, Period 4

Another week, another class with Electroclash standing in front of the students with a sour-ish look on her face. This time, though, they were meeting in the Danger Shop, which meant there really was no reason for their teacher to look so annoyed, since she didn't actually have to do much beyond verbally telling the room what to do.

But she was annoyed just on principle, thank you very much.

"Okay rugrats, my teaching outline says today you'll be introduced to practical heroing," she announced once everyone had arrived. Or most of them, at least. She wasn't keeping count that closely. "So, you're all gonna put on your costumes, assuming the sidekick is present and has lived up to his name and acquired them for you, and then you're going to do simulations of some heroics. You can do them by yourself, or you can partner up, I don't care. Power usage is encouraged. And afterwards, I'm supposed to ask you for your thoughts on the tasks or whatever. So that might happen."

She gestured to the dressing rooms to the side. "Well, get on it."

[Wait for the OCD! OCD up!]

Lex was so glad he'd only gone for a domino mask, so, so glad.

Yes, Billy had costumes for everyone, because quite honestly, he wasn't sure what would happen if he failed, and if you hadn't noticed that he was an overachiever by now, well, here was the proof. Those who had gone for something simple would be getting very grateful looks as he passed everything out.

Karla had followed the lines of her catsuit as best she could while designing her costume, so the overall effect wasn't too egregious. So long as one didn't count spandex, of course.

Hey, hey, there was nothing wrong with spandex! Stephanie's Spoiler costume had been made of . . . some stretchy material. Okay, not spandex because that was expensive and she'd made it herself on a budget, but the point stood that she wasn't categorically opposed to spandex and its less expensive cousins.

The costume she'd designed for this class was an eyesearing, clashy mess of bright neon colors, with no cape and no mask but a gigantic and totally impractical hood that looked like it was doomed to cause disaster (probably because it was), but that she'd argue was for the intimidation factor. Sort of like a lizard with an expandable ruff.

She was trying a liiiiiiiiiiiittle too hard to act like someone who had no idea what real superheroes were supposed to do, and was basing things off wildly exaggerated comic books or something.

Oh god, Tony. Don't laugh. Doooon't laugh.

"You look like that dinosaur from meta for Jurassic Park," he said, managing a straight face the whole time.

Well, the spandex monstrosity wasn't any worse than Squall had designed it to be. That was at least something.

Elphaba rather liked her new outfit. It was practical, if a bit clingy, and had a nice contrast of color. She pulled on the gloves last and smiled behind the cloth that covered most of her face.

Sam...did not want to wear spandex. He was a t-shirt and jeans sort of guy so this -- this was gonna be interesting.

ImagiLad was more than happy to get into his costume, which involved so many rainbows that it was quite possible that he'd be mistaken for a different kind of super hero all together, and he bounced excitedly at the prospect of doing some superheroing stuff.

After all, it provided a perfect cover for his true side, his identity as the great and devious Professor Chaos! Oh, boy, did he have some chaotic things planned for the week coming up!

But for now, he was just good old ImagiLad, doing good things and being imaginative, and practical heroing. Mwa ha ha!

Lex looked at the cat in the tree, then looked for a partner.

It wasn't that he didn't trust the teacher...okay, it was totally that he didn't trust the teacher.

"I really don't think this happens in real life," Tony said. His costume was neon. And showed off his legs.

This is why he and Stephanie weren't allowed to egg each other on, people.

Karla looked at the old lady, looked at the traffic, and then shrugged. "If you'd come with me?" she asked, offering her arm.

The old woman had some trouble with climbing an invisible staircase (or a visible one, even, she and Karla chatted about her hip as they slowly crossed the bridge of air, high above the street) and then making the descent, but apart from keeping to her hobbling pace, they didn't run into any difficulty.

On the other side, Karla offered the old woman some recipes for a nice tea that would help the aches in her joints and sadly declined an invitation home for cookies.

Squall started running toward the purse-snatcher, only to find himself cut off by a mob of... umbrella-wielding nannies?

Fine. Whatever.

He yelled "MOVE!!!" as loud as he could. If the nannies didn't move out of his way, it wasn't his fault. They'd wish they had, though, because he started running again, using his arms and his shoulder to roughly push them out of his way. He didn't care how many people he knocked over or how many umbrellas jabbed him painfully.

Elphaba was stuck with the old lady, and watched the traffic for a moment for coming up with a ridiculous idea. And since all she had in her arsenal was minor telekinesis and fire...

She set fire to a nearby trashcan. Once traffic stopped for the incoming fire truck, she was able to help the old lady cross with ease.

Butters stood next to the old granny and the busy streets, shaking his head.

"First things first," he said, "I'm gonna have to write a letter to the city council about how this busy road doesn't have any crossing lights. That's just plain silly. But I understand you need to get across this street soon, ma'am, and that takes a while, so allow ImagiLad to offer you his services and come up with an imaginative way to avoid all this dangerous traffic. I bet if we go down the street a little, we could find a less busy intersection to cross at, ma'am."

If Billy was laughing, it would be the hysterical "Oh god why did she make things catch on fire?!" kind as he wondered yet again what he'd gotten himself into.
