The Library is Open (02/02)

Rory went to the library after ACJ to see it unopened, and raised a brow before hurriedly opening up and taking her place behind the desk.

Since ignoring Janet had worked so well during ACJ, Sam continued that policy by turning her back on her as she chatted with Rory.

Janet's face was set in a frown. She wasn't hurt. Or angry. She was just checking in books and setting them down on the counter with a little more force than she had previously.

Sam may have winced once or twice as the books hit the counter, but she didn't turn around.

Janet stood up to get the shelving cart. While she was pushing it back to her seat, she wasn't paying attention and it bumped into a chair--and she ran right into it. Hard. A corner of the cart caught her ribs and she yelped.

"Son of a bitch," she hissed, holding her hand over the area of her ribs that had impacted the cart. She maneuvered the cart the rest of the way slowly. With one hand. And sat down more carefully than usual.

Sam automatically turned around at Janet's yelp, but remembered she was ignoring her and turned back around, jaw clenched.

Janet saw Sam turn out of the corner of her eye and tilted her head just in time to see her whirl back around and continue to ignore her.

My. There were a lot of older books for her to work with today. Janet kept blinking the dust out of her eyes and glared at the books. And at Sam.
