Library, 1/31

Well-armed with coffee and muffins from her trip to the Perk, Angela sets up camp behind the collections desk. Idly, she wonders where the Librarian is.

In between bursts of library work, she's trying to read some Flannery O'Connor short stories. Yet, somehow, she can't keep her mind on the words.

But she is there to help with all your library needs.

"See, that's why I knew I could talk to you. You're so open-minded," Angela says. Then: "I know. I know what he is. He just asked me to have lunch, and ... I don't know. I didn't want to piss off someone who could zap me with a fireball, and he was standing there, and ... I said yes."

"And the really fun part, about Marty? Marty is supposed to keep him distracted during study group. Knock him out with a tranquilizer gun, if he can."

"I don't know. I'm a little freaked out."

Rory sighed. "Sorry. That was harsh of me. Just...yeah. I don't want you getting hurt." Then another thought occurred to her. "What about Phoebe? Didn't they just break up."

She ran a hand through her hair. "Isn't Marty a really good shot?" she asked, biting her lip. "I mean, I can't see him having too much trouble with it."

"Yeah, I called Phoebe so she'd hear it from me and not from the radio. She called back and said he was single, so it was fine. Sounded miserable, though, so that's another reason why this is a bad idea."

Angela rubs her forehead, considering the Marty situation. "It shouldn't be hard for him. But you saw what Drusilla did to
him, and she can't teleport. I guess we just have to hope his first shot takes Belthazor out."

She wrinkles her nose. "But, see, that's kind of a reason to go to lunch with him, isn't it? If I talk about the party enough, he might spend all night there, and not end up in a situation where Marty has to deal with him."

Rory nodded. "I can kind of see that. But if he doesn't stick to the party and Marty does get him, do you think he might realize he was kind of set up?"

"Maybe?" Angela's head is back in her hands. "I should just call him and cancel, shouldn't I? Tell him I thought about it and I can't hurt Phoebe like this, or whatever."

She makes a face. "But if I could convince him to stick to the party, I make things a lot easier on everyone else. I don't know. Think we should ask Parker?"

Rory draped an arm around Angela's shoulders. "Parker definitely, and depending on what she says, possibly Angel, too. I mean, this is his thing. Probably good to run stuff by him, I think."

"Angel too," Angela agrees. "Although asking him for boy advice is weird."

"I'll try to find Parker later tonight," she sighs. "And worst-case scenario, I just eat fast and leave faster. Right?"

"Right," Rory agreed with a nod. "I don't think he'll hurt you. I just...ulterior motives, you know? I don't trust him. At all."

"Me either," Angela agrees. "I mean, he might even have heard something about Study Group and figure I'm a weak link. I seriously doubt that he just woke up this morning and decided he had to have me because I'm cute, you know?"

"I figure I'm safe as long as we don't leave campus."

"Yeah, stick to campus. And in public," Rory said. "But it should be fine." She made a face. "I wonder how many people know or suspect about the study group."

Angela rolls her eyes. "There are, what, 15 of us? Out of maybe a hundred kids in school? It has to be half the school has some idea something's up. Unfortunately."

"It would be nice if Belthazor wasn't one of them, though."

Rory nodded vehemently.

"Yeah. I wonder how many actually know what we're planning." She bit her lip. "And I wonder if Darla and Drusilla know what to expect."

"I don't know," Angela says softly. "I hope not many, and that they don't. But it's not like we can ask them and find out."

"Yeah, it'd kind of defeat the point," Rory said wryly.

"Unless we could get them to hold still for a stake while we were at it," Angela agrees.

"Okay. I'll call Parker. Hopefully she'll have an idea."
