Library, 1/31

Well-armed with coffee and muffins from her trip to the Perk, Angela sets up camp behind the collections desk. Idly, she wonders where the Librarian is.

In between bursts of library work, she's trying to read some Flannery O'Connor short stories. Yet, somehow, she can't keep her mind on the words.

But she is there to help with all your library needs.

"Researching ninjas?" Angela asks, not quite idly. "Zero was reading a book about them yesterday..."

She shrugs and turns to the library computer, typing in Bel's request. "It looks like there's a book called "The Samurai Archives" that's supposed to be good for history, and there's something called "Japanese Weaponry," too. They're both over on those shelves near the study room," she finishes, pointing to the rear of the library. "I could pull them for you if you want."

"Sure, that'd be great, thanks," Bel said, giving Angela a charming smile. "Not exactly looking for ninjas," he went on. "Just have an interest in Japanese weaponry. Kind of a pet project for the Sociology of Violence."

"Oh, you're taking that with Grissom, too?" Angela says. "By the way, the quiz yesterday in Paranormal was killer. Especially when we were fighting snow monsters instead of studying all weekend. I guess Grissom didn't plan on that when he wrote it."

Bel had the decency to look a little guilty. "Dr. Grissom didn't leave a lesson plan, so I kinda came up with that myself," he said. "Seemed the easiest thing to do. But don't worry, I'll grade easy." He winked at Angela.

A curious look crosses Angela's face. Is he flirting with me? Weird.

"I'll go get those books," she says shortly, and goes back to the shelves, returning with two thick tomes, which she hands to him. "Think these will help with your project?"

Bel flipped through the books. "These look great," he said. "I'll check them out, if that's okay."

"No problem," Angela says with professional cheer as she processes the check-outs and hands the books to Bel.

"Here you go. You have these for three weeks. You won't make Zero come after you with her mallet this semester, right?"

Wincing a little, Bel chuckled. "No, I don't want that to happen again," he said. "I learned my lesson." He picked up the books, then paused. "You've been really helpful, Angela. Can I buy you lunch or something to thank you?"

Mentally, Angela flails. A lot. Because on the one hand, it strikes her as good policy for her to stay on his good side, especially given current plans; if nothing else, she can try to keep him from getting too curious about study group. On the other hand, Phoebe will hate her for poaching.

She weighs those things, and ... what the hell. Lunch is safe, right?

"Sure?" she says, attempting a smile. "On campus, right? I haven't braved the cafeteria yet, but I'm willing to if you are."

"Great," Bel said with another smile. "I have Magical Theory right before lunch -- should I meet you at your room?"

He hadn't planned on asking Angela out when he came into the library, but the idea had suddenly crept up on him. It would piss off Marty, which was always something to strive for. He might be able to get some hint about what Angel and his friends were up to, since he knew Angela was part of that crowd. And a small petty part of him might have wanted to let Phoebe see he'd moved on like she apparently had.

"I'll be coming from government myself," Angela says. "I mean, it's probably easier to just meet in the cafeteria, right?"

Yeah, she's trying to minimize the date-y stuff while still getting to know what he's up to. Maybe she can make a big deal about the party Friday to distract him...

"Whatever the lady prefers," Bel said cheerfully. "Hopefully something good is on the menu. If not, I can always shimmer us into town for something better."

"I don't think we'll need to ... shimmer ... anywhere," Angela says hastily. "It sounds like the chef's a lot calmer this semester."

"See you at noon?"

She's smiling. Really.

"See you then," Bel said, grinning. He gave Angela another wink, then headed out of the library with his books.

"Bye," Angela says.

Then she sits down wondering what she just agreed to.
