Library, 1/31

[chasingangela]

Well-armed with coffee and muffins from her trip to the Perk, Angela sets up camp behind the collections desk. Idly, she wonders where the Librarian is.

In between bursts of library work, she's trying to read some Flannery O'Connor short stories. Yet, somehow, she can't keep her mind on the words.

But she is there to help with all your library needs.

"Happy Tuesday back, Angela!" Blair bounces happily. "Have a good weekend?"

Angela looks at Blair like he's crazy. "I didn't get hurt too badly, I guess," she says, holding up her still-bandaged hand. "But I can do without the monster invasions. How about you? Did you stay all warm and dry?"

"Ouch. That's horrible!" Blair points up to the bandage on his forehead. "Mostly dry. Just got a bump trying to negotiate peace. Apparently the snowmonsters weren't interested."

"Ouch," Angela winces. "But I love that you tried. I don't think anybody bothered to talk peace to the zombies last fall. Not that it would have worked, but, you know, I'd rather we didn't have to kill stuff."

"I thought that somebody should, although after getting beaned I wasn't thinking about peace either. I don't think there's anything wrong with people defending themselves especially against mean evil things."

Angela nods. "Yeah, that's what I think too. I hate fighting, but ... sometimes there's no other choice, you know?"

Blair nodded. "Exactly. I still think that you should try peace first, but sometimes you have to fight in order to defend yourself and others. Even the most peaceful of tribes will kill in order to protect their children...so it's universal."

Angela considers this, rubbing her chin. "Yeah, I guess whatever beliefs people have, they kind of go to the side if it's life or death."

"You believe in, like, karma, right? What do you think the karma is of fighting in that kind of situation?"

"Karma evens things out in the end. I really believe that it's bad karma to kill somebody or something. But if the reason you harm someone is because you are saving someone else, then you get good karma for that." Blair waved his hands as he spoke.

"So like, if you have good motives and really are defending yourself or others and not just killing for the fun of it...then the good karma should outweigh the bad."

Angela listens, rapt. "Thanks, Blair." Then, as if realizing she might seem a little too interested, she turns away and tucks a piece of hair behind one ear. "I just like to think abut stuff like that, y'know?"

"No problem, man. I think it's something that everyone should think about."

Blair paused for a second and then spoke quietly. "Is everything okay, Angela?"

"Of course. Why wouldn't it be?" Angela says. She doesn't quite meet Blair's eyes, though. "Just .... you know. Heavy thoughts, lately."

"You know, with my intials I'm considered a good dectector of BS." Blair arched his eyebrows and grinned. "Sorry, that's a pretty bad joke."

"You can talk to me if you need to, you know. I'm good at listening to heavy thoughts."

"It is," Angela says with a groan. "And thanks. I think I'll be fine, but I'll remember you said that."
