After hearing the radio, Sam reported to the library to see what was being done about the vampires and what she could do to help. ~~As you do~~ .

She stomped over to the desk. "So, what the hell are we doing about this?"

Parker grimaced and didn't pretend to misunderstand Carter. "I'm thinking pitchforks and torches. Aeryn called and sounded up for it. You in, if we can find those crazy bitches?"

_{[and I go afk for an hour!]}

"Oh yeah." Sam nodded firmly. "And I can probably do better for you than a pitchfork." She grabbed a sheet of paper and a pencil off the desk and began sketching furiously. "Anyone heard how Rory is?"

"Rory's fine," the girl in question said as she emerged from putting a book away in the stacks. "Physcially, anyway. Hi Sam."

"Rory!" Sam reached to hug her, then stopped mid-movement, not sure how Rory would be dealing with physical contact after being attacked. "I'm glad you're physically okay, at least. The mental stuff might take a little longer."

She also made a mental note to talk to Rory at some later date about learning some fighting techniques. Maybe Aeryn and Callisto would be willing to help out.

Rory nodded, and reached out to hug Sam. "Yeah, it was scary. But hey, I made out better than Vala, right?" She winced. "Any word on how she is?"

Sam hugged Rory back tightly, then stepped away. Too damn young. "I'm glad. And I don't know anything about what happened to Vala, other than that Cameron told me she was stabbed. I'll have to go check in on her later." She paused. "Wait, was she attacked by Darla, too?"

"I think?" Rory said. "I thought I heard something about that. With the stabbing. I mean, Darla didn't hurt me. Just...scared me. And gave me a headache. Chloroform? Not so much with the being fun."

"Drink lots of water," Sam said, knowing about this from her experience being kidnapped by Adrian Conrad. "And sometimes scaring you is worse. If you ever need someone around while you cry, or scream, or rant, or shiver in a ball in a corner about this, you can knock on my door. ~~I've been there, too.~~"

"I'm usually awake anyway, working on something. Assume I could use the interruption, okay?"

"Okay," Rory said with a thin but completely genuine smile. "I think I'm okay, though. I mean, I'm totally not hurt, so...why dwell on it, right?"

She tried very hard to be convincing.

Sam's expression may have conveyed her failure to be convinced. "Right. But the offer's always open, Rory. You've got a lot of people who care and worry about you here. Make sure you take advantage of them."

Maybe this wasn't the right time, but... "And you'd be amazed how taking the bitches out will help. Seriously." She nodded and tried to remember what she'd been told. "Even if you're not physically involved, make sure you tell whomever's planning it everything you can remember. It'll help you get rid of any feelings of victimization you may have, because you'll be taking an active role."

"I talked to Angel - went straight to him, actually. I probably ought to talk to him again, just 'cause I'm a little more coherent, huh?" Rory mused.

"Angel's good," Sam said, "and I'm amazed you had both the bravery and the presence of mind to go to him right after a vampire attack. And coherence is always a plus," she smiled slightly.

Rory shrugged. "Darla sired him. I figured if anyone knew how to deal with her...."

Sam blinked. She hadn't known that. "I, uh, yeah. That makes sense. Any idea who sired her? Maybe we could ask that guy for some pointers."

"No idea. I know Drusilla is somehow tied to Angel too, through...family. That's what they consider it." Rory made a face. "But Darla sired him, yes. Or at least, Angelus told me that."

"Great. So, basically, we're trying to kill the guy's mother. That's got to go over well." She frowned. "How'd Angel take the news?"

"He's mad. He's been trying to stop her for awhile, I think," Rory said. "He doused her stuff in holy water a few days ago."

"Wow. That's really creative." Sam was glad Angel was on their side, but still, why hadn't he taken more direct action, if he knew they were such a threat? Not a question to raise with Rory, but she'd definitely ask Parker later. "So, any ideas what you're going to do to make sure this doesn't happen again? You must be getting kind of sick of all the attention."

"Stabbed." Parker is a little surprised Janet hasn't mentioned all this to Carter before, but figures that maybe she didn't get into the details. "And her wrist was broken, coming back from Caritas. But she's going to be fine."

"God damn it. When is someone official going to do something?"

She kept sketching. The picture now looked like a modified tommy gun, but rigged to shoot stakes instead of bullets. "And when are we going to do something, if they won't? This is ridiculous."

"How about as soon as we can go out there without a snowplow?" Parker suggested. "We were looking at places to start at I-Club last night. The graveyard, some of the abandoned buildings-- I don't want to make the new cops mad, but unless they turn us around and send us home, I think we should at least try to find them. I don't know if it's legal or illegal to kill vampires on this Island, but I'm beyond caring. I just don't want to get caught."

Sam nodded in agreement. "I think you're right. If you give me a little time, I might be able to come up with some effective weapons that will keep us out of hand-to-hand range. Maybe Bridge and some of the other inventor types around here would be willing to lend a hand."

"I don't want to get caught by the cops, but I'm much more worried about being caught by them."

"Same goes." Parker looked thoughtful. "Aeryn definitely wants in on this. I'm wondering if her pulse rifle might be an advantage too. We've got a flamethrower in one of the first floor closets, and I still have grenades. Plus the gun I used on Tuesday, though that's more to frighten them off than anything else. But anything more high-tech would be wonderful. Angel wasn't sure how many he fought a couple days ago, but it was at least twenty, and some of them got away."

"I'm not surprised Aeryn wants in." If Sam's lit up a little at the mention of the flamethrower, well, she was only human. "I'll see what we can come up with. Maybe Mac's got some stuff in the Shop we can adapt, too."
