Fine. "Look, I have my reasons for not telling people, okay? I made a mistake going there, I'm not planning on doing it again until this insanity is over, and it's probably a good thing for Callisto's sake that I was there anyway."

Parker grumbled, shaking her head. "Yeah, she said as much. Still. Risky. Dangerous. Jeez. Next time, find a phone and yell for help." She cocked her head, calmer now. "So, what's the story? Alien? Destiny? Curse? What? And if you don't want to say, keep in mind that people are going to be making crap up pretty soon."

"Trust me, I know exactly how dangerous it was. And if you really have to know, I'm an accident of science." Peter rolled his eyes. "Of course, nobody will be making crap up if the people who know something respect my privacy and don't give any details."

"Fine in theory, but blown away by the fact that a ninja gave you a marshmellow was on the radio. People are gonna ask. Or make up stuff." Parker cocked her head. "But I won't give out any more details, if it's that important. I'm actually mostly just jealous, damnit. I'd like to be able to dodge bullets." She pouted.

"Maybe the ninja was just feeling generous and had an extra marshmallow. Who knows?" Peter didn't. That was probably the most bizarre moment from yesterday.

"And thank you. I appreciate it. But trust me, powers aren't all they're cracked up to be. They come with a lot of responsibility."

"Responsibility? To do what? I'd think if you had the power, you could make it easier on yourself. So much more would be possible! I get so frustrated, dealing with some of the creeps and dangers around this school. If I were super-fast or whatever, God, that would be an improvement." Parker shook her head. "I can't see what would change for me, but maybe it's different for you."

"How many friends have you had die just because of what you were? How many people should you have been able to save, but you made a bad decision? How many psychopaths have tried to kill the people you love just to hurt you?"

Peter looked down. "Responsibility."

Parker paused, studying Peter. She'd had a couple things like that happen, but nothing quite that bad. She'd always been the one on the sidelines, trying to keep Jarod out of the fire. "Oh." She quirked a smile at him. "Okay. Powers equal target, equal responsibility." She tilted her head at him. "Still. They still would have been psychopaths, with or without you. And maybe having power made a difference." Then she shrugged. "Sorry, I'm crap at comfort. But I do get it."

"Don't get me wrong," Peter said, lifting his head. "I wouldn't give up my powers for anything. I've done a lot of good and I've had some good times. But things balance out. The good is really good and the bad is really bad."

"Right now, though, I need to hold back with them. Yesterday was a mistake."

"Yeah." Parker cocked her head. "Wait, I'm not sure we mean mistake in the same way. Are you talking about trying to help Callisto with only Bridge Carson as back-up? Because then we're on the same page."

"Um. Heh. Kinda sounds like you didn't get the full story," Peter laughed nervously. "Um. It was actually my fight until Callisto rushed Crazy Hooker in the middle of it. All I did to help her was pull them apart and make sure she got back to the dorms."

"No, my mistake was going to the park in the first place."

Parker palmed her face. "Don't tell me. You thought evil was afoot? Or something?"

"What? Who says things like that? No, I'm just talking about the fact that I walked in there after seeing the fire," Peter lied.

She didn't have to know that he could sense the danger there from as far as the school gates and he just followed the buzz in his head.

"Well, I think Professor Tick does. And possibly the new Mountie, I could see him pulling that off." Parker's eyes glazed over for a second, then snapped out of it. "I would *hope* you'd have more sense. Since no matter how fast you are, you're not built like a brick wall and people are just *going* to want to mess with you."

"Which is why I've already said that I'm not going back there," Peter insisted. "Park. Mistake. Not happening again. Okay?"

"Good to know." She cocked her head at him. "Hey. If you need help-- that's what we've got I-Club for. You wouldn't have to 'come out' if you don't want to." She shrugged. "And for what it's worth, I know Callisto's grateful. So I'll stop giving you a hard time. I just had to bust your chops for the concealment. Okay?"

"I'm still staying far away from I-Club. If you really need my help with something, let me know, but I'm not much for group stuff, really." Peter sighed in relief. "And that's okay. Rory grilled me, too, but I didn't tell her as much as I told you. Just so you don't have to play any 'What does she know' games. I only confirmed what happened yesterday."
