Rory sleepily made her way into the library, coffee in hand, and took her seat behind the desk.

Sure, "happy" or "awake" wouldn't be very apt descriptions today. But really, did that matter?

"Thanks. Sorry I couldn't say hi to you at the party yesterday but LJ was being a whore." Angel leaned against the counter. "I'm just worried about what he's going to try next. That's two spells he's been able to zap me with. There's gotta be some way we can stop that, right?"

Rory nodded. "Yeah, the party was crazy and I was playing two of my characters on top of LJ being a whore, so no worries. Angela and I were talking about it - you don't think he might try to get Phoebe to help, do you? Because, um, I'm pretty sure she actually knows something about magic. I think."

"Phoebe is a witch," Angel agreed. "I don't know the full extent of her powers though. And Bel had her so turned around it took her a long time to understand that Angelus was not a friend. Actually I'm still not sure she gets that. Phoebe's got a good heart, but sometimes she sees a best in people that just isn't there."

Rory quirked half her mouth in a wry smile. "Yeah, I don't identify with that at all. Really. But do you think Bel will try to manipulate her into helping him or anything?"

"It's possible," Angel said. "If nothing else he could ask her to do something and she might not believe he's asking for the wrong reasons."

"Which again makes me think she might be kind of dim, given the circumstances," Rory sighed. "But it's not fair for me to think that, really. I'm being unreasonable. I just don't get it. How did she react to the whole you-being-him thing?"

"Confused," Angel said. "I tried to tell her what was going on but she reacted as though I was Bel and that I was breaking up with her. "

"Huh. Understandable, but...I don't know, you'd think she'd be able to tell something's wrong with her boyfriend." Rory shook her head. "Eh, I'm just letting the fact I don't particularly like her influence my opinion on this."

She arched a brow. "Oh, speaking of couples, how are you and Callisto doing?"

Angel grinned. "Nice. Did you hear she tried to stake me when she woke up to Bel-as-me acting all strange?"

"She told me at the party, yeah," Rory nodded. "Smart girl."

"Strong too." It was possible Angel was looking a little doofy. "Not that I really wanted the test, but it's nice to know that if the worst happens she's prepared for it. It means a lot to be with somebody who gets that."

"Yeah," Rory said, also kind of doofily. "It's great knowing someone's completely going to be able to do what needs to be done in the worst situation."

"Especially since my worst situation is pretty bad," Angel said. "It's funny, after Buffy I didn't think I'd be with anybody again. In any capacity. I guess I never thought I'd meet anyone who could look at all of me with an honest eye and be able to deal with it."

Angel smirked. "Maybe I shouldn't have been looking towards the all-white hats as a dating pool."

Rory gave a wry smile. "Yeah. Well, I mean, Cal gave me a stake while I was still in the clinic. It's cool that you've got someone who's fully aware of everything."

"Plus it's nice that it's not - I dunno. All epic and 'grr'." Angel made a face at himself. "I'm not making any sense, am I?"

"You're happy there's not, um...pressure for it to be a big, epic thing?" Rory tried.

"I think so, yeah. I dunno." Angel's shoulders slumped a little. "Don't get me wrong. I loved Buffy. Still do. And not like I totally get the dating thing. But still. It's nice."

Rory nodded. "Yeah. It's nice to be able to just date without it being a...thing."

Angel brightened. "Exactly. It's, I dunno, relaxing. Like I can be myself. Not that I'm entirely certain who that is yet."

Rory shrugged. "Not a whole lot of people do know that, I think. But it's nice to just be with someone without worrying about it all the time. Or, hell, having to worry what other people think, really."

"Or being hit by a cricket bat," Angel muttered. "But what about you? Been seeing anybody since Logan?"

"Nope," Rory said, probably too quickly. "Staying single for awhile, I think."

"Well that's good," Angel said, trying to act as though he knew what the hell he was talking about. "Don't want to... couple. Too quickly. If you don't want."

"Um, it's more that, um, boys are too much trouble. It'll be nice to be single for awhile," Rory shrugged.
