The Library is Open - 01/23

Rory sleepily made her way into the library, coffee in hand, and took her seat behind the desk.

Sure, "happy" or "awake" wouldn't be very apt descriptions today. But really, did that matter?

[ooc: Wait for my OCD, yo. And OCD threads are up, yay.]

Angela comes back from some reshelving and notices the mountie. She overhears him tell Rory that he's the new head of school security.

All kinds of new people lately, she thinks, before smiling and involuntarily running a hand through her hair.

"I'm a library aide too," she pipes up. "My name is Angela Chase."

Parker shoots her a look and says, "Hiiii, Constable Fraser. Good to see you again."

"Good afternoon, Miss Parker." Fraser smiles at her. "Not spending time at the gun range today?"

"Sadly, no. Mondays and Wednesdays I'm mostly in the library. Did you need a library card? Or help finding anything? Our system isn't computerized, so we could find something in the card catalog for you." Parker's smile is completely innocent, even if she's doing the Flirtatious Head-Tilt (TM Veronica) for all she's worth.

"I did apply for a library card with Miss Gilmore but I would accept assistance in locating some books," Fraser says. "Do you have a folkore or a mythology section?"

"We do indeed," Parker said, her smile widening. She flicked through the cards at the desk for a moment, then said, "390, Customs, Etiquette and Folklore, and 398, Folklore; and 753, Symbolism, allegory, mythology, legend. I could show you where those are?" She offered hopefully, hopping off her perch. "Are you looking for any type of mythology in particular?"

"I would appreciate your help." Fraser gestures for her to lead the way. "And mostlly looking for folklore. Canada is rich in folklore and, considering the United States is just south, I'd hoped to find some American folklore that catches my interest as well."

"You really ought to talk to Dr. Pierson, my history professor," Parker said, stalking her way toward the stacks, trailing her fingers over the edges of the shelves as she looked for the right listings. "He knows a *lot* about folklore. He's teaching Western Civ and Medieval England this semester, but he used to be the Librarian."

She leaned down carefully near one of the lower shelves, tapping the bottom two. "Folkore and etiquette-- more about customs and superstitions than anything else, I think." She shimmied herself up again, and gave him a winsome smile. "The rest of folklore is right behind me. Mythology is over there," she added, nodding across the aisle to the other row of shelves. "I think American starts near the end of the second row. Anything else I can do for you?" she asked, streeeetching her arms out and looking relaxed. "Anything at all?"

"You've been most helpful, Miss Parker. I thank you kindly," Fraser grins. "I think I'll start with just one or two books for now since I imagine I'll be busy for the first few weeks of my time here."

He examines the shelves carefully before picking out two books on cultural folklore.

He shows her his selections. "What do you think?"

"No problem whatsoever, Constable. Don't hesitate to ask for more help, should you need it. Or if you need to get into Special Collections." Parker smiled back, and tapped the top book (http://www.ewebtribe.com/NACulture/stories.htm). "I think this one has legends on the Northern Lights in it. Although you've probably heard all of those before. That one (http://www.americanfolklore.net/tt.html) isn't familiar, but let me know if you find Annie Oakley in there." She dimpled at him. "She's always been one of my heroes. Are you sure you don't need anything else? Study partner, a tour of the library?"

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Study partner?" Fraser asks, tucking the books under one arm. "Am I supposed to be taking classes as the new head of security?"

"It might be useful. This place does need some studying," Parker said, her tone coaxing as she lead him back to the check-out counter. "And I might have a *little* time on my hands. I'd certainly hate for you to feel as lost as I did, my first few weeks here." She smiled brightly at him. "Consider it an offer, anyway."

He hands her the books so she can check them out and then hands her his new library card.

"I certainly will consider the offer, Miss Parker." Fraser puts his hat on his head, grinning. "And any assistance in helping me better learn this school would be welcome."

Parker checked out his books for him, then leaned over the counter to hand him the books, not-quite-but-almost flashing cleavage. "Youuuu betcha, Constable. Have a super day!"

He smiles, nods and takes his book.

"Have a good afternoon, Miss Parker. Don't work too hard."

"Miss Chase, pleasure to meet you." Fraser nods and smiles at her. "Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and new head of school security. You're an aid as well? How do you find time for school work, if I might ask? That's a lot of responsbility."

"There are five of us, plus the librarian," Angela explains with a shrug. "We're all pretty good at covering for each other. And I can do my homework when things are quiet."

"I only started in November, though. So I'm still kind of figuring things out."

Fraser smiles kindly at her. "That's very kind of you to say. I guess that means I'll have to visit when I can then."
