The Library is Open - 01/23

Rory sleepily made her way into the library, coffee in hand, and took her seat behind the desk.

Sure, "happy" or "awake" wouldn't be very apt descriptions today. But really, did that matter?

"Pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Gilmore," Fraser says, smiling. "Are you the librarian?"

Rory gave a little laugh.

She sounded a bit idiotic.

Oops.

"Um, no. I'm just an aide. But I can help you with anything you might need."

Fraser smiles turns into a small laugh and he puts his hat on the counter in front of her.

"You're a library aide and a student? That's quite a full schedule. You must have excellent time management skills."

Rory smiled kind of stupidly.

"Uh huh. I'm also a TA and the head of a couple clubs," she said. "Trying to get into Harvard."

"That does sound like an incredible amount of work for one person," Fraser remarks, nodding. "I commend your ambitiion and responsibility Miss Gilmore and I trust that you and I won't be meeting outside of friendly chats. Right?"

"Of course not," Rory said seriously. "I don't get in trouble, Mr. Fraser." She smiled adorably.

And then a little voice in the back of her head started yelling at her about how she has a boyfriend, even if no one except maybe three people other than the two of them know that, and that the nice man in red was too old for her anyway.

So she folded her hands neatly and stopped smiling quite so flirtatiously.

"That's good to hear, Miss Gilmore." He nods and looks around the library. "While getting into trouble might seem fun at first, the consequences really don't justify the action. I trust you when you say you don't get into trouble. Please, don't hesitate to call me if you do find yourself in trouble though."

And he scribbles his number down on a small sheet of paper.

Rory grinned a bit too widely.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Fraser! I'll be sure to call if there's anything wrong."

Parker is not pouting that he gave Rory his phone number too.

She may be mouthing 'Anakin' at Rory behind his back.

Rory pouted.

She mouthed, 'Pretty!' back.

Well, that was true. Parker studied Constable Fraser at her leisure, and really couldn't blame Rory too much.

"Very good." Fraser smiles and nods again. He does that a lot. "Oh, if I wanted to check out books from the library, should I apply for a library card with you?"

Rory beamed, because ha, she got to give him a card.

This might not have been fair.

Oh well.

"Yes, I can totally take care of that," she said, pulling a form from he desk. "Um, name, place where we can reach you, and your faculty position. And I'm supposed to tell you not to put that you're the Chosen One, because it'll make Janet cranky."

Having once again reminded herself of a certain Chosen One of her own, Rory carefully stopped staring at the pretty, pretty Mountie.

"Of course."

He picks up the pen and writes down what Rory's asked of him. When he gets to faculty position, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and new head of security doesn't fit.

All that fits is Royal Canadian Mount. Fraser stares at it.

"Um, I appear to have made a mistake on the form." He picks it up and shows it to Rory. "Will this be a problem?"

Rory blushed, because that's kind of dirty.

She didn't say so, though.

"Um, I think that's okay. We'll all probably know who you are anyway."

"I apologize for that," Fraser says, blushing just slightly because, yes, he's just seen that what he's written is slightly dirty.

"And, I meant to ask, what or whom is a Chosen One?" Fraser asks.

"We have a couple of them here," Rory shrugged. "There's a girl who I've never actually met, named Buffy Summers. I think she's shy or something, because I hear about her all the time, but she's never around. And there's Anakin Skywalker, who's, um, prophesized to do something really important in his galaxy. Hence, Chosen One."

"Interesting." Fraser nods and taps his chin for a moment before smiling again. "You're very helpful, Miss Gilmore. I do thank you for making me feel comfortable in your library."

"Oh, of couse," Rory nodded. "And thank you for keeping campus safe."

"You're welcome." Attemping to make a joke, Fraser says, "If I ever become the Chosen One, I'll be sure to come back and get my library card changed as soon as possible."

Rory giggled. "Well, if that happens, it's probably best you don't, actually. It'll make one of the other aides grumpy. But not me. I think Chosen Ones are cool. Or at least, I really like the one I know."

"Well, in that case," he says, reaching for his hat, "I'll keep it to myself. You can think I'm 'cool' and I'll think of the same of you."

Rory blushed an even darker red.

"Aw. Um, have a nice day, Mr. Fraser. I hope to see you again!"
