The Library is Open - 01/23

Rory sleepily made her way into the library, coffee in hand, and took her seat behind the desk.

Sure, "happy" or "awake" wouldn't be very apt descriptions today. But really, did that matter?

"I don't get it either," Angela admits. "I think Angel was in Cole --or whatever his name is's body too, maybe? And yeah, we're lucky Cole kind of sucks at magic. I just hope Phoebe Halliwell doesn't randomly decide to help him. I like Phoebe, but ... you know. Weird taste in men."

"See, Phoebe's...eh," Rory made a noncommittal gesture. "I have my issues with her, but it's not exactly like I can question her taste in guys, given my own. But yes, Demon-boy sucks at magic. But do you think Phoebe would help him? I know she, like, loves her boyfriend and all - and again, I don't think I can call the weirdness of that into question - but I didn't think she was evil. Or that dumb, really."

"Not evil or dumb," Angela agrees quickly. "But ... I dunno. I guess what scares me is that he could completely manipulate her into doing something that would help him, even without her realizing exactly what it was. Just because she loves him, you know? But I guess we just need to trust that she won't."

"And yeah, I'm not one to talk about weird taste in guys, given that my ex has, you know. A body count."

"I could see that. Him manipulating her and all," Rory nodded. "Have you seen her recently, by the way? I haven't seen her in ages - since before Christmas, I think. I heard she got hurt or something?"

"She went to the spa with me and Veronica Mars and some other people yesterday. I only talked to her for a second, but she was out of her wheelchair. Which I guess is good. I didn't get the whole story about how she got hurt -- something about demons." Angela shudders. "She said she was okay physically but not mentally, whatever that means."

Rory arched a brow. "Poor thing," she said sympathetically. "That's kind of weird, that she was at a spa so soon after getting hurt so badly. I mean, I don't think I would want to be doing stuff like that all that quickly. In fact, I know I wouldn't, since I can kind of relate." She gestured vaguely at her neck. "But I guess everyone's different. I mean, maybe it was therapeutic or something."

"She probably needed the distraction, maybe? Or she didn't want to let Veronica down." Angela shrugs. "But yeah, I see what you're saying. Especially with the whole Cole-Angel bodyswitch thing. You'd think she'd want to be with him, or yell at him, or whatever."

She winces at Rory's gesture to her neck, and is reminded of something almost completely different. "Oh, hey, I was supposed to interview someone about a paranormal experience for sociology. Can I talk to you? I mean, if it won't just bring up really bad stuff."

Rory smiled. "Of course you can. And any bad stuff that it might bring up has already been mused and worried over too much anyway, so I'll be fine."

Angela nods and reaches for her sociology notebook. "Okay, just let me know if there's anything you don't want Dr. Grissom to know, or whatever."

"The first thing I'm supposed to ask is what happened, where you were, and when it happened."

Rory nodded, her expression shifting to seriousness.

"Um, I was attacked by a vampire - chased, suffocated, bitten and drunk from - in Logan's house. Started in his bedroom, and then I ran, hid in a closet, and ended up getting bitten in a guest room when I was found. And then he carried me back to Logan's room," she said quietly, though her voice remained steady. "And I want to say it was November 18, right?"

Angela winces. "November 18," she says, in a voice that is trying very hard to stay steady. "I remember."

"And, um ... Grissom just said three more questions. I guess the first one is, how has this affected the way you think about vampires?"

Rory gave a wry smile.

"I certainly don't believe for a second that they're good, as a whole. The exceptions being Angel and Vladdie, since I know Angel's souled and Vladdie's a different kind of vampire. So...I guess my idealism's kind of messed up."

Angela manages not to comment on this out loud. Really. Instead, she just scribbles the answer in her notebook.

"Okay. Next question is, did you believe in the paranormal before this experience? Or, I guess, before coming to Fandom, 'cause being here is kind of a paranormal experience."

"Nope," Rory said, shaking her head. "Didn't believe in vampires, ghosts, mutants, life on other planets, you name it. This outlook? Changed a tiny bit."

"Gee, I can't imagine why," Angela says with a grin. "And, um, last question is .... what advice would you give other nonbelievers on dealign with the paranormal?"

"Um." Rory thought for a moment. "Be wary," she finally said. "Don't automatically trust anything until you have proof that you're not in danger. Find out as much as you can about the paranormal subject in question. And, um, trust people who actually do know better than you."

At this, Angela looks like she wants to say something, but restrains herself. After all, she doesn't know anything about Anakin, really.

Yet.

"Thanks, Rory. That's all I needed. Let me know if you need to talk to someone for Journalism, or whatever, ever."

"Sure," Rory nodded, and made a face. "This week I'm supposed to investigate something that warrants being written about, or something. Any recommendations?"

"Actually, yeah. I was talking to that bouncy guy, Blair at the party yesterday? And we realized neither one of us had any idea who Jeff was, or whether he was a vengeful god or a friendly one, or even if it was biscuits as in English cookies or biscuits as in Southern bread things. And we're eating stuff this guy makes. I think that's totally worth investigating and writing about. Even if it turns out to just be a random name, it's a popular business."

Rory scrawled a quick note down.

"Great idea. I mean, Jeff could have some random, fascinating backstory." She chewed on her pen. "I wonder if he's actually a deity."

"Could be. Aziraphale's an angel, so it wouldn't even be that weird for this town, or anything."

"Exactly. And hey, demons, too."
