"Hi Pippi." Walter dropped a broccoli spear on her plate because she had clearly overlooked her greens and gave her an almost-normal grin. "I dropped off a box of cupcakes in Smith's inbox. Your turn tomorrow?"

Pippi crinkled her nose at the broccoli but ate it anyway.

"Very good! I was thinking Ding Dongs Ring Dings. For Tuesday."

"I don't know what they are, but variety's good, right?" Walter was eating his broccoli with relish, but he ate almost anything with relish. People sticking fingers toward his plate might find out just how close to almost everything he ate with relish.

Pippi ate ravenously, she was not partial to relish on meshed petetues.

"I don't think Meshed Putetues, are going to win him over." Pippi responded taking a bite of Cerrut Ceke-a and enjoying it very much but with no relish, chutney, or even a dab of salsa.

Walter's food had almost disappeared, sans chutney, chow-chow, salsa, or even ketchup.

"We'll have to keep that one in mind." Said Pippi pushing her empty tray to the side with or without kim-chee, mecraw, or wasabi.

Walter does not spread mustard on his last piece of cerrut ceke-a, instead eating it nude.

"Pippi, can you help me out with my Sociology homework? I need to interview another student about their experiences with the paranormal."

Walter pulled his notes out of his bookbag and looked them over.

"I'm supposed to ask someone who has had an experience with the paranormal about their experience. I have a feeling you have more than one story, so, can you tell me one paranormal event you experienced, where you were, and when it happpened? Then I'm supposed to ask you three more questions."

"Oh gosh, yeah... I gots oodles of stories..."

She thinks, and it does not occur to her to bring up last Thrusday.

"Well, the one Tommy and Annika always went on about was when I was... Nine. I had found a very upsetting bottle note from my Papa when we were out swimming. So we went back to Villa Villekulla and went up to the attic, and I took out a crystal ball Pappa and me got from a fortune teller."

"Were you able to use the crystal ball?"

The bottle note was interesting, but he decided to stay focused on getting his homework done before asking about that. He'd probably find out about it on the way, anyway.

"Oh yes. It takes a lot of convincing but it will eventually show me what I want to see if I keep asking and ask nice enough."

"What do you have to do to convince a crystal ball to work?"

"Well, don't ever say this around the ball itself, because I don't know how or if it would react. But appart from telling it who or what I want to see... It's rather like trying to coax a dog to come out of a hiding place when it's scared."

"Last question: Did the crystal ball help you work things out with the disturbing message?"

"Oh yes. It showed me right where Papa was being held prisoner and I was able to go rescue him with my friends. It was a very helpful ball."

Walter finished jotting down his notes before looking up to smile at Pippi. "Thank you! Dr. Grissom will like this story. On a personal note, did you bring the ball with you when you came here?"

He wasn't thinking of using it to see home. Definitely not.

"I'd love to see it sometime. I've never seen a working crystal ball. Even if it takes coaxing."
