Creature Languages, 1/23

Dream waits until most of the class has gathered and a small purple dragon has joined him before addressing the class. A plate of chocolate chip cookies sits on his desk; there are enough for students as well as his guest.

"Hello.

As we discussed last week, you will spend today talking with the dragon Lockheed. I trust you have all prepared questions for him in his native tongue.

I will be in my office after class for any questions."

Dream then leans back against his desk, arms crossed, and waits for Lockheed to introduce himself. He can translate if needed.

Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockheed stands in front of the class and nods when he has their attention. He then gives a little wave in greeting. Finally, he speaks a greeting in Formal Dragon.

/Hello, students, it is time to speak
Although I know your Dragon is weak
Give it a try, ask the question you prepared
Nothing you ask will go unanswered/

No, that last bit didn't quite rhyme. He hadn't used his Formal speech in a while.

[OOC: I will be replying throughout the day. Apologies if replies go a little slow due to work.]

Zero blinks and looks a bit like a deer in the headlights. Woo, on-the-spot rhyming! Too bad she sings punk instead of rapping.

/Good morning, Lockheed.
Welcome to our class, um, indeed?/

Lockheed smiles. To be honest, he kind of appreciates this kind of improv. To encourage it, he switches to Informal Dragon. The students should be able to get the point of what he's saying, even if they don't catch all of the words.

/Thanks. Now, feel free to ask that question you had prepared./

Molly decided to skip even trying Formal Dragon. She was having enough trouble remembering the pronunciations she'd worked on last week. She didn't think she could handle rhyming also.

Since she'd already met Lockheed once, she gave him a little wave before starting.

/Greetings, Lockheed. I hope you are having a nice fish./ Yep. Pronunciation still needed work. /Have you tumbled any bad goats lately?/

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockheed recognized Molly as that kid who was obsessed with Wolverine. She really needed some more practice, but it was a nice effort.

As soon as he parsed the question and made some guesses as to what she meant, he responded.

/Hello, Molly. My day has been very good. No, I have not fought any bad guys recently. This town really needs some excitement./

Lisa waves a little hello, and reads her question from a piece of notebook paper.

/For formal speech, or just for jokin' shush
What's your favorite language spoken?/

"Umm... besides Dragon, I guess. Oh, I mean."

/Save the lovely language of Dragon,
which is, of course, truly... mackin'/

Lisa just shakes her head at herself in woe.

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, a well-prepared student. Lockheed smiled.

/I rather enjoy the language of Japan
I like to hear it whenever I can/

He then frowned slightly and asked, /Mackin'?/

There was no way Paige was even going to attempt to speak the very formal Dragon, it was likely to make her explode today.

She smiles at Lockheed. "Good morning Lockheed, I hope you're well. I was wondering if you knew many other dragons?" she asks, her pronunciation likely very very bad since she'd not actually had chance to RP her pratising in the last class due to lack of partner

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockheed winced slightly at the very very bad pronunciation, but he managed to catch what the question was.

/I've met a couple on Earth, but very rare are we
On this planet, in this dimension, there's pretty much just me/

He thought for a moment, then added cryptically, /But there is one fish that I'm suspicious of./

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Blair grinned and bounced happily.

//My question to query
which I hope you'll reply
if it isn't too dreay
just exactly how do dragons breathe flames without buring their insides or putting out the flame when they drink water or something?//

Blair paused and shrugged. The rhyming sorta fell apart in that last line.

Pippi gives Blair the thumbs up and mouths "that was really good!"

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockheed was extremely impressed. That question was very complex. The answer, however, wasn't.

/I never studied biology. It probably has to do with glands. Or the spleen./ Lockheed shrugged.

/Good morning, dragon shining-scaled,
A dragon dictionary, myself availed,
I must ask, no offense intended,
When dragons war, how fences are mended?/

His dragon has a distinct British accent, but it could be worse. It could definitely be better, though.

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
/With a hammer and nails./ Lockheed then chose to give a real answer.

/Good day to you, too, my friend from another shore
Who describes things in Tick-like metaphor
It depends on the battle and what it's about
Sometimes the strongest prospers, sometimes we talk it out
Dragons, you see, aren't much different from you
To be honest, dragons are really just people, too

But we're much more adorable about it,/ Lockheed said, giving his best cute wee dragon face.

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
/Greetings sir, on this fine day
I hope you can understand what I say
I'll do my best not to sound dumb
Could you tell me where you're from?/

Pippi smiled and waited for an answer that she was not going to understand because all she did was memorize those words and nothing else.

/I'm actually an alien from outer space
But from far, far away from the home of the human race.

Yep. Alien dragon. Not too surprising that I'm the only one of my kind around, is it?/

Xander swallowed, and grinned a bit weakly. Oh yeah. There was supposed to be a question. The rhyming, he wasn't bad at, and the vocab he sort of understood, but the preparing properly for class? Um.

When in doubt, wing it.

//Uh, hi there, Lockheed. How's by you?
I have a friend who's purple too.
But he can't breathe fire (thank God!), or fly.
So. Um. Do dragons like eating pie?//

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
/Yes, we do./ Lockheed's gaze narrowed. /Do you have pie?/

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] upforachase.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cordy sighs, feeling utterly exhausted, and rubs her eyes. But she doesn't want to offend the dragon, because that would be scary.

//Hello, good dragon, tell me true,
Does anyone ever ride on you?

If I were a dragon, with my attitude,
I think I should find that very rude.//

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] sakuracchyan.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sakura smiles at Lockheed, and glances quickly at the vocabulary sheet handed out the class before.

//Hello, Lockheed.
Please excuse my lack of formal Dragon rhyme,
I've never been very poetic.//

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] bugofjustice.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Lockheed nodded and said in Informal Dragon, /Not a problem. Please ask your question./

Victor was a little nervous, but he had been practicing. "Here goes," he sighed.

/Oh flying sir of clouds above
How is it your fellows express thier love?
Be there certain...rules? that you must abide?
Or can any love in his heart reside?/

He beamed, glad he got most of it right.

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[identity profile] aka-vala.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Vala waits her turn, then attempts her question. Sadly, being sick all weekend doesn't make for the best preparation, and stuffy noses don't make for the best pronunciation.

//Hello Lockheed I'm glad us meet!
Tell me help, what you liek to eat?//
stykera: (electromagnetic candy!)

Re: Questions for Lockheed

[personal profile] stykera 2006-01-24 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
//Hello, Lockheed.//

Stark smiled at the dragon.

//Do you miss your home? Or do you like it better here?//
