Professor Chaucer's Office Hours, Monday

Professor Chaucer is sitting behind his desk, feet kicked up on the edge, staring out the window. He has a pocket watch which he keeps turning over in his hands. He doesn't look to be in a terribly good mood, although he'll probably talk to you if you bother him. The door to the office is closed, so you'll need to knock or be rude and barge in.

"Phoebe-- no, come on in." Geoff drops his feet down off the desk and turns his chair to face her. "I'm sorry. Just in something of a dark mood today. I'm glad to see you're feeling better. What I can do for you?"

Phoebe smiles faintly. "Wanna be in a mood together, my friend?"

"Sounds like a good plan. Have a seat and tell me what's got you down."

Geoff gives a wry smile and leans his elbows on his desk.

"Guy troubles." Phoebe confesses to her friend. "You?"

Geoff laughs. "People troubles in general, partly guy troubles specifically. What's happened? Not a problem with the fellow who brought by your excuse, I hope."

Phoebe nodded glumly. "He's trying to do something that I have to stop."

Nodding, Geoff asks seriously, "Is this a personal thing like...drinking too much, or a big thing like...murder?"

Eyes widening a little, Geoff replies, "Good God, Phoebe! What...I mean, I don't really know what I could do to help, but if there is anything..."

He shakes his head. "I could try and talk to him?"

Phoebe shakes her head. "Not like that Geoff... I mean I may kill him myself if he doesn't stop doing this crap."

That got a dry laugh. "My mistake. But I understand, there've been times myself lately..."

Geoff rolls his eyes. "Well then, I don't want to pry into private affairs but -- is there anything I can do?"

"I'm glad for that, Phoebe. You know, we should try to do more outside the classroom. Get coffee or something. Bring your gentleman friend and maybe I can talk some sense into him."

Geoff reaches out and takes her hand. "Do you want to talk about it? Or would you rather talk about something else?"

Phoebe squeezes his hand. "How about you share next, and then I'll tell you more?" She smiles. "Friendship goes both ways."

"I suppose that's only fair. The biggest thing, I guess, is that someone who's...very important to me left town this morning. For good, and unexpectedly." He runs a hand through his hair, frowning.

"He's...not the first person who's left town on me lately, and it's getting hard to deal with, I guess. And like I said, he's really important to me." After a pause, he adds, "And CJ was in here earlier, and I'm sure you've probably heard that she's sort of a teenager right now. Which is fine, except that she stormed out angry at me and I have no idea what I did to make her mad."

Phoebe squeezes his hand. "Yanno, before coming here, the idea of CJ being a teenager again would have rendered me speechless. Now, not so much." She gives a slight smile. "Teenage female hormones and mood swings, Geoff."

Laughing, Geoff says, "I was a teenager once myself, Phoebe. And not as long ago as some would like to think. I suppose she's just having trouble adjusting. Plus she started out angry with me, over the thing with locking her and Jack in the emo closet. Which I think she's overreacting to, but..." He shrugs.

"So, those would be my troubles. Now, mine are either going to go away or are things I just need to get used to. So the question is, what are we going to do about yours?"
