Speech Comm

201--Speech 2nd period

Ok, kiddies. Today...persuasion. You'll be working on a persuasive speech to get me to buy a product you yourself use and endorse. I have context about each of you...so, fo example, Barbossa? I probably wouldn't buy a ball point pen from you.

Pick and item and sell it to me, gang. Go. Delivery on Thursday...5 minutes or so.

301--Interpersonal Communication

So yesterday was a lecture, and Togusa had some great questions about mixed messages. Today I want you to discuss CLARITY and what purpose it serves for both parties in the S/M/R paradigm.

SPEECH 301::

Maia signed in:::

"The Clarity in speech is needed so that mixed messages will be kept to a low count. If your able to say what you mean and mean what you say, I think there would be a lot less arguing in the world." She was wide awake today and sitting up straight, no kicks to the table for her.

Much more awake today than yesterday Shep chips in, "The only way a message can be clear is if both the sender and receiver have similar background knowledge regarding a given situation, including the use of non-standard phrases and terms. If not, a message won't be clear until a common ground can be reached. Once they've reached that common ground they can build from there for further messages."

Before class, Bel brings a doctor's note to CJ. "Professor Cregg, Phoebe's going to miss class today. Hopefully she'll be okay for Thursday's class. I'll let her know what the assignment is."

Alanna stared at a blank sheet of paper for five minutes before realizing she had no idea what she could possibly sell. Except annoying talking cats.

Speech 301

Togusa signed in, still worn out from a Tachikoma joyride.

"There is also the danger of the receiver not able to understand the senders message due to speech levels. If the sender is at a higher level than the receiver, then they have to simplfy the terms in order for the reciever to understand. It goes both ways."

Barbossa sat down, tapping his quill against his lips.

He was pretty sure he could convince someone to buy just about anything.

Even ballpoint pens.

A fiendish smile crossed his face and he began to write.

Isabel looked at her coffee, looked at Prof Cregg, shrugged and began to write.

Jack comes running in. Late.

Again.

[Bahg. Mun had computer issues yesterday do to having too much crap on the comp. But at least the Mun now knows why there were repeated freezes and Blue Screens...]

"The only way a message can be clear is if the sender and the reciever have knowledge on the message topic, and if they're, well, upfront with each other and able to get what they mean across." He looks somewhat unsure of this.

Lisa seriously considers dragging up her advertising plan and business model from last semester's classes, but instead she starts writing an outline on selling running sneakers.
