Janet came in at the start of second period and opened up the library.

"Phoebe got attacked by demons, she got hurt, she dropped out." Parker made a face. "She's going to be okay, though. And I think she's relieved she's out of it." SHe grinned at him. "*Now* are you sorry I pushed you into this?"

"I refuse to answer until I find out how much work you're going to bribe me into."

Walter nods an apology for interrupting.

"Excuse me. Angel? When you have an opportunity, I need to speak with you (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/520880.html?thread=24492976#t24492976).

"Wuss." Parker refused to lose her good mood. "Your girlfriend got elected too. She can protect you. Or she can back me up, when we're both right." She looked thoughtful. "I saw that Chloe Sullivan won. Are you okay with that? I know you're friends with Skywalker."

"You kidding?" Angel asked. "I pushed her to run. I don't want Anakin on the job."

Parker managed to combine relief, intrigue and surprise in short succession, and settled on, "Really? I would have thought you'd have supported him. Any reason you care to share for not doing so?"

"I don't trust him."

Parker sighed in relief. "Any reason you can share? Because my reasons for not trusting him might sound stupid."

"Nothing that's mine to share," Angel admitted. "But I don't. What's yours?"

She grimaced. "I'm not sure this is mine to share either." She tapped a finger against her lip. "Okay. No specifics, no names. Some of his mind-tricks? Can be mis-used. And in his culture, mind-whammying someone is not a crime, it's a diplomatic tool. And he doesn't get why anyone here would have a problem with that. Frankly, it freaks me out."

"Me too," Angel said. "And that's why I'm having some trust issues."

Parker nodded. "If it makes you feel any better? Angela and I are going to be doing some research on the Jedi. Just, for, you know. Reference purposes." She shrugged, and tried to look innocent.

"Lemme guess: Special Collections?"

She smiled. "Knowledge is power. Power is protection. Protection is good. And not just for condom balloon animals."

"Your mind's a little scary sometimes. Anybody ever tell you that?"

"They usually leave off the 'little', but yes. Often, and with a kind of wide-eyed look." Her grin widened, then she said, "We're thinking of having our first I-Club meeting of the semester on Thursday. This project won't be on the agenda, but others will. Think you can make it?"

"Sure," Angel said. "Other than Darla what's the plan?"

"Gremlins, even though they're supposed to have been eradicated; we can always use a back-up plan in case the administration didn't pan out." She made a face. "Phoebe may ask for help with the demons that attacked her, and she's got a point, but I'll only support that if she goes to the administration, too. They're a threat to other witches, though, so the ones here at school should be fully informed. And I believe a few other people had some concerns." She shrugged. "Janet said she'd run it this time, so unless she ends up busy, she'll be the one keeping us on agenda."

"So not me, in other words. I can live with that."

Parker cocked a sardonic eyebrow at him. "Just because I pushed you into being on StuCo, doesn't mean I'm not aware how much you'd still suck at being in charge of I-Club. Your recent adventures in relationship advice, for instance. I don't know the details," she added, holding up a hand, "but the radio was enough to convince me you're better in support positions, not making your own plans. So to speak."

"I was only trying to help," Angel grumbled.

"And how's that dating-Callisto thing going? Good for you? Still just miserable enough not to lose your soul? Think you've got that handled properly?"

"So do you and the rest of I-club have this on a rotation or something?" Angel asked. "Is Marty going to be the one who gets to ask me tomorrow? I only want to know if I need to be wearing a helmet of some kind."

Shrugging, Parker said, "Should we? Honestly, we're all so in the dark about this, I think we're just nervous that suddenly, it'll turn out you can be made perfectly happy by the perfect hair product. Or toast. Or who knows what. And since none of us are into physical torture-- and we know you are-- this is the best we can come up with. Unless you have a suggestion?"

"Perfect happiness isn't that easy to come by," Angel said. "Not saying I don't share the concern. Just the resources that monitor my hair gel are better served looking out for the next demon trying to hit me with a love spell."
