Janet came in at the start of second period and opened up the library.

Janet raised one eyebrow and gave Angel a look. "You did," she said, trying not to laugh at him. "Why did you do that anyway?" She poured about half a dozen espresso beans in his hand.

"I need the class," Angel admitted. "When I get back to my dimension I want to try out the hero gig. I'm not Buffy, though, so I need all the help I can get."

Never having eaten espresso beans before, Angel's not sure how. He takes one single bean and chews on it experimentally.

"Buffy?" asked Janet, looking slightly confused. "I didn't realize Buffy was a hero type. I thought she just went to classes and worked at the florist's shop. You know, the one run by the serial killer?" She had definite opinions on being heroic and the number of times it caused one to need medical attention, but she doubted Angel would appreciate if she expressed them. Also, she presumed vampires needed less medical attention than USAF types normal humans.

"What do you think?" asked Janet, watching him chew on one.

"Slayers usually are," Angel said. "I only know the one back home. Maybe the one here needed a break? Living on a Hellmouth can be rough."

Angel continued to chew. "It's not bad. I can taste it."

"Slayers?" Janet shook her head minutely. "I don't know what a Slayer is. But Buffy seems like a normal teenage girl--self-absorbed, a little into clothing, right? Though she seems a bit off somehow. Didn't she take that first Ethics class assignment and stretch it out way past the sixteen hours required of her?"

"The caffeine or the coffee flavor?" asked Janet.

"Yeah, her and Beka," Angel agreed. "Not really sure what was up with that. Then I never really got Beka. Guess there's some things only my evil self can figure out.

"And the coffee. It's good. Strong." Angel popped the rest of the beans into his mouth.

"They were kind of codependent for a while there," said Janet. "Buffy and Beka. And don't ask me about Beka. She came on to practically everyone in my group of friends at one time or another. Not to mention started calling me 'family' after knowing me for a week. Talk about issues."

Janet hoped that vampires didn't get migraines from ingesting too much caffeine. The constriction of blood vessels could be a killer for anyone who wasn't used to it. Like, say, she was. Ooh. Angel with an ice cream headache. That could be funny too. "I live on coffe some days," said Janet.

"She always thought she 'got' Angelus," Angel said. "Beka, I mean. I felt bad for her. Angelus pegged her for some sad kid desperate to feel like she was one of the in crowd. He played up to that and there you go. But in the end he was just using her. 'course, he uses everybody."

Angel leaned against the desk. "I used to not since it made me jittery, but I don't think anybody can survive this school without caffiene. Or alcohol."

Janet winced. "I had the whole--" She waved her hand in a gesture that was intended to indicate that she didn't want to get into it, but instead just looked a little flaily. "--parasite thing. Where I spent the week before Homecoming possessed? Hathor That bitch used my body to say some pretty harsh things to Beka. I guess she took it personally, because she started saying things to my friends about how I was desperate to hold on to my boyfriend or something." She shrugged. "I guess that explains why she was so bitchy over something I couldn't control. And no offense to you, Angel, but your evil self creeped me the hell out."

Janet laughed. "Or both, applied in copious and alternating amounts?"

"Both definitely sounds good," Angel agreed kicking work as it forced slowplay. "Especially now that I'm on Student Council with Parker. Something tells me I'm never going to sleep again."
