Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

"Hey, new person! Welcome to Fandom!" Alanna toasted Pippi with her cup.

Pippi tosted back.

"Hey, old person! Thank you very much!"

She sipped her drink and offered her hand.

"Pippi Longstocking... I think I've been warned about everything already." she said smiling.

"Oh, you're the Freshma I wanted to keep! I like you!" Alanna flahsed Pippi a full smile. "Alanna Trebond, and don't worry, I don't warn people. Much." She paused. "We're all insane here."

"Oh, you're on the radio, now I recognise your voice." she smiles back, "Aren't you also looking for 'attackers' or something?"

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna nodded. "Yup. For self-defense. I need people to actually attack the people learning to defend themselves. Also, gives them practice. Why, you interested?"

"Well, attacking isn't normally my thing. But I certainly know how to do it." she smiled. "If you're still hurting for people, I'm still looking for an extra-curricular activity."

"That'd be great. We meet at the gym on Wednesday evenings. If I'm not there by a quarter after six, it probably means I feel asleep and should probably be woken up." She thought for a second. "And don't worry too much about being hurt, I'm a healer."

"That's good to know. But you shouldn't worry overly much about me getting hurt. I'm very hard to hurt."

Alanna raised a brow. "Sure. So how you liking school?"

"I like it very much thank you," she answered cheerfully, "I was worried because I never had much formal schooling... I was kinda home schooled... Or rather, ship schooled."

Alanna turned a bit green. "Ships. Yeugh. I get sea-sick, horribly." Alanna explained. "But that must have been interesting, getting to see the world and all."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded, she didn't get sea-sick herself, but she understood that not everything was for everybody.

"I do miss it at times. But I don't miss getting attacked all the time. I swear, if we had actually kept every ship we defeated we coulda started a fleet!"

Alanna whistled. "Nice. Did you join the fighting?"

"Well, not until I could stand obviously. Though Papa does have an amusing story about how I knocked out an enemy Captain with my bottle this may even be his coat... He's prone to tales however is my Papa. How about you? When did you begin your martial endevors?"

Alanna stared at her, jaw a bit slack. "Well, definetly not before I could stand. Coram, he um, worked on our fief, he taught me some basics when I was little. He was trying to teach my twin but, um." She grinned. "Thom wasn't interested. I was. Thom and I switched places when we were 11. He went off to be a Sorcerer and I disguised myself as a boy and went to train to be a knight. I'm a Squire right now, will be a full Knight in a few years."

"Did he disguise himself as a girl?"

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Gods no!" Alanna shuddered at that idea. "Boys are allowed to be Sorceror's, it's just that our father didn't want him to be on. I was going to be turned into a proper lady." She rolled her eyes. "Big chance of that happening."

Pippi nodded again, now here was something she could really identify with.

"Into everybody's life it seems," she said, "A Miss Prisillia must fall... I had this nosey lady on my back all the time, kept trying to get me to move into her 'Children's Home'... Tommy and Annika thought she was after my money but I think her heart was in the right place... Still though, 'no thank you' means 'No... Thank you.'" she shook her head, "Some people."

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna snorted and nodded. "Gotta love people who try to run others lives."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded.

"...So, how did everybody react to your not being a boy?" asked Pippi. Obviously Alanna was no longer concerned with hiding that she was a girl, so obviously that whole rigmarole was over, right?

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna shook her head sadly. "I live in a different world. Back there, they still think 'Squire Alan' is the one who got sent over here. They don't know I'm a girl, nor will they until I get my shield. Maybe even later. Here, I can be who I am."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi finds herself nodding a lot this evening.

"That's kinda why I came here to. I couldn't deal with the way the school in my town did things. If I wanted to go to school there... I'd have to change... Not that I don't have to change here. Change is what growing up is all about I'm told. But there... I would have to change who I was. Fundamentally, and to quickly."

She looked at Alanna. If Pippi was able to become a pirate captain nobody would be able to take that away from her simply for being a girl. Pirates had guidelines, not a committee that handed out spiffy hats and cutlasses.

"Men are pigs sometimes."

"Oooh yeah. Especially when they get it into their heads that they have all the power."

"Where'd they get that idea anyway?"

"Something about women being the weaker sex." She shook her head sadly. "I'm one of the best fencer's at court, and that's me being honest."
