Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

"Did he disguise himself as a girl?"

"Gods no!" Alanna shuddered at that idea. "Boys are allowed to be Sorceror's, it's just that our father didn't want him to be on. I was going to be turned into a proper lady." She rolled her eyes. "Big chance of that happening."

Pippi nodded again, now here was something she could really identify with.

"Into everybody's life it seems," she said, "A Miss Prisillia must fall... I had this nosey lady on my back all the time, kept trying to get me to move into her 'Children's Home'... Tommy and Annika thought she was after my money but I think her heart was in the right place... Still though, 'no thank you' means 'No... Thank you.'" she shook her head, "Some people."

Alanna snorted and nodded. "Gotta love people who try to run others lives."

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded.

"...So, how did everybody react to your not being a boy?" asked Pippi. Obviously Alanna was no longer concerned with hiding that she was a girl, so obviously that whole rigmarole was over, right?

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna shook her head sadly. "I live in a different world. Back there, they still think 'Squire Alan' is the one who got sent over here. They don't know I'm a girl, nor will they until I get my shield. Maybe even later. Here, I can be who I am."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi finds herself nodding a lot this evening.

"That's kinda why I came here to. I couldn't deal with the way the school in my town did things. If I wanted to go to school there... I'd have to change... Not that I don't have to change here. Change is what growing up is all about I'm told. But there... I would have to change who I was. Fundamentally, and to quickly."

She looked at Alanna. If Pippi was able to become a pirate captain nobody would be able to take that away from her simply for being a girl. Pirates had guidelines, not a committee that handed out spiffy hats and cutlasses.

"Men are pigs sometimes."

"Oooh yeah. Especially when they get it into their heads that they have all the power."

"Where'd they get that idea anyway?"

"Something about women being the weaker sex." She shook her head sadly. "I'm one of the best fencer's at court, and that's me being honest."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ptch. Yeah, I'd like to see a boy carry a baby around in his body for nine months and then push it out like I saw native women doing on Tuka-Tuka island." she rolls her eyes, "Then we'd see who the weaker sex is."

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna made a face. "Don't remind me. There are women, in other countries, who are warriors. And even a hundred years ago in Tortall women could be Knights and warriors."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Where's Tortall? Never been there."

"Probably not. It's in my world, which, is not somewhere you can get easily. Basically, think the fourteenth century, only cleaner and with magic." She let a little ball of purple light form in her palm.

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"The former is a natural result of the latter I would think." Pippi says, "That's very pretty! How do you do that?"

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm Gifted, and yeah, it's something you're born with, but some students here can do the same spells I can, and vice versa. Mostly, I'm pretty good at healing like I said. Broken bones, scratches, bruises, those are all things I do. Um, and there's just some random spells. I've been working on transformations and transportations lately, with mixed results. My twin's the really magical one." She let the ball extinguish.

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Mostly, I'm just strong." says Pippi, "But I do have a crystal ball that will show me people if I ask it very nicely... I'm not sure if it's me or the ball though." It doesn't occur to Pippi to mention any of the other things she's done in the past; like, fly or make cars run on rain water and glue...

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
((I only know the Russian version of Pippi, so this? Is hilarious))

"Strength is useful, and the crystal ball thing must be cool. I have no talent for scrying at all."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
More nodding. "Yes, both came in very handy when my Papa was captured by a rival band of pirates. The ball showed me where he was."

[[OOC: The only thing I have of Russian Pippi is a picture I got off the internet from a Russian translation of the books. Though I'm re-reading the books for obvious reasons. I'm most familiar with the Swedish movies/TV shows that were dubbed into English. Was there a Russian movie or TV show made?

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
((ooc: Honestly can't remember. My only memory of Pippi is my dad reading the books to me when I was sick. From that, I'm assuming I was under four.))

Alanna raised a brow. "You travelled with pirates?"

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Naval tradition has a much similar drawback to your situation. I certainly couldn't grow up to be a Captain in the regular Navy... We weren't normal Pirates you see. Only ever caused trouble with certain of other Pirates. Firstly, because they are the ones with all the money. Secondly, they rather deserve it. And thirdly, people who aren't pirates tend to like you as a result. Since there a great deal more non-pirates then there are pirates, you don't have trouble finding a place to dock and re-supply. Sometimes we would be hired to sail alongside another ship and protect it. That was always fun, because the other Captain would often have Papa and I over for dinners."

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
"That...must have been awesome. So you're going to be a Captain?"

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"That's the general idea." Said Pippi. "It's all well and good to be the Captain's daughter but you can't be that forever, and it's better to have a ship of your own eventually. Not that I'd have a problem taking orders from another Captain for a while, but... I don't think I'd want to do it for the rest of my life." she paused, "Of course, 'proper' schooling may change my mind."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna nodded. "You're close with your dad then I take it? And if you're looking for 'proper' schooling, you're not going to find it here."

Re: Pippi chats with Alanna - pre-spiking

Pippi harumphed, "More proper then Fredolf yelling, 'Come down from the crows nest and learn this i before e rule right now Pippi!'" Alanna would note that when she says that she changes her voice so that it does, in fact, sound like a man.

"As for being close with my father? Yes we are very close. That is possibly why it takes less cajoling to get the crystal ball to show me him. Or so the witch-doctor told me."
