Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

Pip comes up. "Think you could play a mambo? Or something mambo-esque? How about a mamboleo (http://www.lyricsdownload.com/elisa-mamboleo-lyrics.html)?"

Zero looks a little uncertain. "S'not our usual thing, but yeah, we'll try." There is a bit of hurried discussion among the band, then...

You spin me inside outside
You know you hold me so tight
We'll dance and party all night
Mambo Mambol

So kiss me in the moonlight
You know it always feels right
We'll dance and party all night
Mambo Mambol

You're on my mind every day you are with me
And every night boy you're dancing by me
We dance united together we are one
I'll take you there baby come home with me

Ahhhhh...

Chorus

I'm in love with your voice and your laughter
And just one smile always makes me believe
Our destiny curious if you are mine
Won't you tell me that we're meant to be

Ahhhhh...

Chorus

Mambo Maboleo, Mambo Mambol (x4)

When you dance with me boy
I know you feel my equal (x2)

Mambo Maboleo, Mambo Mambol (x4)

Ahhhhh...

Chorus (x2)

La la la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la

Victor lead Walter out onto the dance floor, and grabbed his right hand with his left. "Now, put your left hand on my waist," he instructed.

Walter followed Victor's instruction, smiling faintly while listening for his words over the music. "Lead on."

Victor cleared his throat, trying hard to focus on the dance instead of his partner. "Okay, now I'm gonna step back three steps while you step forward three steps. Like this," he stepped back, leading Walter. "1, 2, 3". Now we reverse. You go back, while I go forward. "1, 2, 3. See?"

"Right." Walter followed Victor's instructions and lead untl he had a better feel for the dance. "Got it. Is there anything else." As it got easier he had more chance to focus on Victor. His skin where they were touching really didn't feel the way you might expect just looking at him. It was both softer and warmer...

One, two, three, forward. Right.

"Yeah, there's lots more, but let's just stick with the basics. Now," he continued, "twist your hips a little. Like this:" He demonstrated by swinging his hip as he stepped. Left back, right back, left back, pause, left forward, right forward, left forward. "Try to feel the music through you. Listen to the beat, and swing your hips to meet it. It's almost like a tango, kinda."

Walter mimicked Victor's movements and followed his instructions about the music. It wsn't too difficult; there was a sort of dance component to fully using the wires, keeping the right rhythm to keep everything moving properly. Walter was able to translate that experience into the dance.

"How close are we supposed to dance?" Walter asked as his hip brushed against Victor's. This close was good. Closer wouldn't elicit complaint.

He raised an eyebrow and smiled, trying hard to keep a certain something soft. "As close as you want to," he said, a little shakily.

Victor approached Zero, smiling nervously. "Hey, Zero, can I ask you a favor? One cool-haired kid to another?"

"Do you think you and your band can play Nickleback's Photograph (http://www.lyriczz.com/lyriczz.php?songid=20241) for me? There's someone I wanna slow dance with. if you can't, I understand." he added, hopeful that she could.

“Hold that thought.” After a rather long conferral with the band, in which Toby seems to be trying to teach Zero chords, Toby hands Zero his guitar and Zero says into the mike, "All right, this is a special request. Emma says it’s new, which would explain why I don't know all the squalling words. I’ve been listening to a lot of Pirate Radio—if you want ‘Little Bunny Foo Foo’ I’m your girl--so we're gonna let Toby have a go at it. Let's hear it for Toby, guys." She winks at Victor before relinquishing the mike.

Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red
And what the hell is on Joey's head

And this is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we'd ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneaking out

And this is where I went to school
Most of the time had better things to do
Criminal record says I broke in twice
I must have done it half a dozen times

I wonder if It's too late
Should i go back and try to graduate
Life's better now then it was back then
If I was them I wouldn't let me in

Oh oh oh
Oh god I

Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

Remember the old arcade
Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hangin' out
They say somebody went and burned it down

We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel

Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since god knows when

Oh oh oh

I miss that town
I miss the faces
You can't erase
You can't replace it
I miss it now
I can't believe it

So hard to stay
Too hard to leave it

If I could I relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change

Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
Everytime I do it makes me...

As with all most modern music, Walter had no idea what he was listening to. But it was slow, and he'd seen what passes for slow dancing, which looks more than easy enough since it mainly constituted standing very close to the other person while holding him or her in one's arms.

He pulled Victor out onto the floor and put an arm around his waist. "I don't think this is quite the right music for a waltz," he said into Victor's ear.

"No, it's not," Victor said, putting his hands around Walter's own waist. "But it's nice, isn't it?"

Re: Songs! - Request

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes." Walter smiled, his nose inches away from Victor's as they slowly moved in time with the music. "You just keep teaching me new things."

"It's been a lot of fun," Victor admitted.

"He leaned over to Walter's ear and whispered. "This is one of my favorite songs, you know. I figured you wouldn't know it, but I hope I can make it special to you just the same."

Compared to what he'd seen Pip doing with Chiana earlier, this wasn't terribly intimate, Walter reminded himself. It wasn't easy to remember with the music in his ears and Victor held in his arms.

"Thanks," meaning far more than just the hug. "A lot."
