Janet ran towards the library. She'd overslept, and it looked like no one else had gotten it open yet. She flipped on the lights, unloaded the food from last night's shopping trip with Parker, made sure that no one but library staff could get to the food, and sat down to start eating while she finished up her Classics project.

"I'll keep that in mind for the next time I randomly decide to crawl through a door in the back of two years ago," Xander muttered. He picked up a fallen spoon and weighed it experimentally, as if entertaining suicidal thoughts of launching it back at her.

Logan dodged as another quill flew at him. His cell phone flew from his pocket, caught on the edge of a bookshelf, flipped open and hit the ground belly-up.

A roll of clear tape labelled SPELLOTAPE whizzed past Logan's ear and bounced on the keypad of the phone, hitting one of the speed-dial buttons.

Rory really should start checking her Caller ID before answering.

"Hello?"

The voice from the tiny speaker was faint, but familiar-sounding. Xander stared at the phone for a second before reaching to pick it up. "...Rory?"

Rory blinked.

"Okay, hi...Xander?" she guessed. That was who it sounded like, anyway. "Did you call me by accident or something?"

"It's Logan's phone. It kind of called you by--" Xander ducked to avoid a card-catalog card that came whizzing past his head like a Chinese throwing-star. "--Act of Librarian, I guess."

"Act of - wait, are you two still in Special Collections?" Rory asked, utterly confused. "Parker mentioned you went in, but...how are you even getting a signal? And is everything okay? Neither of you is hurt, right?"

"Special Collections took a turn for the not here anymore. Not sure where we are now." Xander glanced over to Logan, then back down at himself. "Little ink-spattered, but other than that we're ok, though." A stapler thudded into the wall just over his head, and he rolled away to avoid its crash-landing. "At least until she runs out of office supplies and starts throwing the furniture at us."

Logan frowned. "Is that Rory?" he called out. "Tell her we're fine!" He ducked and a desk blotter flew over his head and hit the bookshelf behind him.

Xander looked at him and raised an eyebrow. "Logan says to tell you we're fine and in no way lost in some library that isn't the one at Fandom High with a psychotic librarian using a magic wand to throw things at us. Also, there was no dragon."

"At least the dragon was polite," Logan said in a rather loud voice.

"Oh, crap. You wandered off, didn't you?" Rory's tone was not one that most people would call 'friendly' or 'approving.' "If you had stayed where you were supposed to, you wouldn't have this problem."

She sighed. "Um, I'll try to find Zero or Dr. Pierson or at least the other girls to get you out, okay?"

"We didn't wander off!" Xander protested. "We were following a gir--" He stopped, and coughed loudly. "Uh. Good book. We were looking for a good book."

"A girl?" Rory asked, pouncing on the slip. "There was a girl in Special Collections? Is she okay? Did you recognize her?"

"There was no girl," Xander replied immediately. "There was only ~~Zul~~ a Good Book. Which I did not recognise, but it seemed really friendly. Until ~~she~~ it led us into a dark room and disappeared into a mirror."

"Uh huh. Right. And neither of you is hurt?" Rory asked. "Where's Logan? I can hear him in the background - but how come you're on his phone? Not that it's not a delight as always to talk to you, but you know what I mean."

"His phone fell; you answered, I got to it first." Xander looked over at Logan. "You want to talk to Rory?"

Logan shook his head. "I think we've got it under control." A quill flew by and lodged itself in Logan's hair. He plucked it out distastefully. "A little help wouldn't be unwelcome, though."

Xander spoke into the phone. "Logan says we've got it under control, which is quite possibly the boldest lie the world has heard since 'Gee, God, you mean there's an apple missing from that tree? Who would do a thing like that?' He also says some help would not be unwelcome, which is more in the way of an understatement."

The eyeroll evident in her voice, Rory said, "Yeah, I'll try to get Zero to come with me. She has a contract with the library, it helps her out, et cetera, et cetera. Tell Logan I said not to do anything stupid. Stay where you are, okay? Easier for us to find you, and all of that. I have no idea how you got a signal, but I can't promise I'll be able to reach you once we're in there looking for you."

Xander held the phone away from his mouth. "Rory says we should try to not be ourselves while we wait for them to rescue us."

Logan frowned at Xander. "Who are we supposed to be, then?"

"Smart people?"

Logan rolled his eyes. "Gimme that," he said, snatching the phone from Xander. "Rory?"

"Hi. Are you okay?" Rory asked.
