The Library Is Open - 12/19

Methos looks like he hasn't slept, and possibly has been hit by a 2 x 4 somewhere along the way.

He's working on translating the text that came for him several weeks ago, making notes in a spiral-bound notebook. If you were, say, Daniel Jackson, you might recognize the notes as sort of a bastard Medieval Latin, heavily abbreviated.

Did we mention the not-good-mood?

Janet came in, smiling, after her Classics lesson today. She very much didn't glance at any translations that Methos was doing. Because she wasn't curious. Not at all. She just sat down and started writing up her final project for her language classes--in between doing actual library work, of course.

"How's it going?" she asked, once she was finally bored with schoolwork.

"You expect me to know? Do I get linguistics credit and library science credit now?" Janet leans over the book, wearing her t-shirt from Parker. "Choice prostitute," she said, making her best guess. "Though honestly, if you need a hand with the translating, Daniel would probably be far better at it than me. Dead, almost untranslatable languages are a hobby for him."

"If you want irony early on Monday morning, you should be supplying coffee," said Janet. "Daniel speaks--" She paused for a moment to try to remember. "I forget. Over twenty languages. And didn't I say 'dead, almost untranslatable languages are a hobby for him?' Even if he didn't speak it, he might enjoy the attempt at translation. But, of course, I would never try to give two people who might enjoy each other's company any common ground for conversation. Please, can you ever forgive me for trying to get you out of your shell?"

"By the way, you forgot to tell Angela that you're having a party for the library staff. Or are you too grouchy for that? If you're not, you might want to check and see when everyone who's leaving town is actually going. Then you'll know if you need to change the date."

"Why aren't you at the hospital?" asked Janet. "The next time something like that comes up, leave. Be with your girlfriend instead of worrying and taking it out on people who don't deserve it."

"We'll have the party tomorrow. It works better for Angela that way. Give me your credit card number. I'll order punch and snacks, make sure you don't get greviously overbilled. And then you need to go to wherever CJ's been admitted and find out what's happening."

She leaned in and said, low enough that she wouldn't be overheard. "Sneak me a copy of her chart if you can."

"Go," said Janet, not forgetting to pocket the credit card. "And call me with an update the instant you know anything. We'll handle everything here."

Janet nodded and watched him go.

OOC: I"ll write CJ and let her know to expect you trying to get her hands on it--and to hope her wisdom tooth surgery went OK.
