Library (12/15/05)
Janet opens up the library after the omg, posted late, noes! Criminal Justice final. She flips on the lights, goes behind the Collections Desk, and starts silently cursing the stupid little gray aliens that sent her back to high school, finals, the whole concept of papers and the grading system in place in the United States today.
She scrawls out a sign on a piece of paper and posts it on the door:
PLEASE TURN IN YOUR OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS
BEFORE THE END OF THE TERM
(OR WE'LL SEND ZERO AFTER YOU
WITH HER MALLET)

Re: After Shop Class
even if I haven't checked this with Daniel yet. I could still have suitably romantic moments alone." She paused. "Even if I had to sedate Jack to do it.""I'll give Murray a call to have his camera at the ready," said Janet. "With any luck, you-know-who would be surgically attached at the hip and we'd get her expression too."
Janet laughed. "I have a sample of the venom. I really ought to have it tested, but I've been busy lately. And you wouldn't believe the digestive system on these guys."
"It's a temporary dye that washes out after a month at the most," said Janet. "You're doing it. I don't know how much it would hurt, but that's why I'd go to the tattoo shop and investigate it. Maybe my back, just next to my shoulderblade? The muscle tissue would be good padding, I'd think. Nowhere near the stomach, hips, or lower back, though." She smiled awkwardly. "I think I want kids some day, and that would stretch a tattoo out."
Re: After Shop Class
"I wouldn't want to horn in on your romantic getaway with Daniel!" Sam was aghast. "I can't believe you even suggested that! Next thing you know, Jack would be off somewhere with Daniel, and you and I would be together...okay, so maybe that doesn't sound too horrible, but I'm sure it's not what Daniel has in mind."
She tried to sound reassuring. "Don't worry, we'll figure something out. It would be nice if Jack figured something out on his own, though. I'm sick of always going first."
"No, I bet I wouldn't," Sam grinned. "But I'm not sure I'd believe our own digestive systems. Have you figured out what makes them keep biting people? Or how to counteract their venom?"
"Sounds like good reasoning." She didn't meet Janet's eyes, but was hoping that her friend wouldn't ask questions. She really wasn't in the mood to discuss that today. "Uh, I'm thinking of having it done on the small of my back. Since it's, you know, temporary."
Re: After Shop Class
Janet snickered. "Do you realize what it sounds like you're saying?" she asked. "I'm sure that's not what Daniel had in mind."
"So, note to self: Make Jack suffer." She shoved all the books further under the Collections Desk's shelf. She obviously wasn't going to get all of these checked in today. "Stop by the room tonight and we'll see if he's actually around. Besides, he and I have to have a little chat about an item in his possession."
"I think it's some kind of instinct," said Janet. She frowned and pulled out a notebook with some sketches and diagrams. "There's no way to know right now what triggers it. We'd need a live specimen to study." She glanced quickly at Sam, then put the notebook away in her backpack. There was--other stuff in there. Stuff that Sam probably wouldn't understand, but it was better not to risk it. "I'd been thinking about asking if you could design a live gremlin trap for a while now. Do you think you could? Zero and I would buy you coffee in thanks."
"As soon as I get it tested, we'll figure out a way to counteract their venom," said Janet. "But I need to mail a sample off to a friend first."
Janet looked curiously at Sam. She got touchy every time the subject of having kids came up, and based on her medical records-- Janet wasn't going to push it. She'd just do a lot more research on the side. A hell of a lot. "What design?" Janet stood up, grabbed her backpack, and came around to the front of the Collections Desk. "You're the one who wants lessons in mischief. Let's go."
OOC: Did you want Sam to be bullied into this by Janet? If not, she can certainly protest her way out of it. :)
Re: After Shop Class
"That's not nearly what I meant, and you know it,
DoctorFraiser," she rushed, blushing. "What's Jack got?""You're goinna study a live specimen? Is that...ethical?" She grabbed a piece of paper and began sketching out a rudimentary trap. "I'd have to refine it and make it to scale, but I'm sure I could come up with something. Maybe I'll ask Bridge to help."
"Would it be too dorky to have a 'gate schematic put there?"
Sam grabbed her messenger bag and followed Janet. "I guess we're going."
OOC: That's fine.
