Library (12/15/05)

Janet opens up the library after the ~~omg, posted late, noes!~~ Criminal Justice final. She flips on the lights, goes behind the Collections Desk, and starts silently cursing the stupid little gray aliens that sent her back to high school, finals, the whole concept of papers and the grading system in place in the United States today.

She scrawls out a sign on a piece of paper and posts it on the door:

PLEASE TURN IN YOUR OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS
BEFORE THE END OF THE TERM

(OR WE'LL SEND ZERO AFTER YOU
WITH HER MALLET)

"Um, Parker, I don't mean to sound morbid and overly militaristic," Sam made a face, "but isn't the worst case scenario to stake her and be done with it?"

"Sounds like one of Jack's master plans," Sam laughed. "I haven't gotten all the details, but I'm still very sorry I missed it. Poor Angel."

"Yeah, it is, which is another reason to avoid it. Too much collateral damage possible. Although getting the word out to make sure everyone knows to avoid her might be a step in the right direction."

Parker chortled. "At least I got to see him hit on Marty. Poor Blank. Although I wish I'd gotten to see him hit Wings with a cricket bat."

"An ounce of prevention, right?" She began fiddling with a paperclip on the counter. "Okay, so that's a dumb phrase. Even if you could weigh it out, you'd always want more than an ounce of it, right? Wouldn't it make more sense to say 'a lot of prevention'? And," She looked up and shrugged. "And I'm...feeling a little literal today. Sorry."

"He hit on Marty?" Sam started giggling. "And Marty hit him with a cricket bat? That's it, I'm never sleeping through the whole day ever again. I miss too much."

Parker gives her a look. "You could always sign up for Professor Tick's course to cure that. I heard he makes them come up with metaphors for Justice, so they'll have them ready." She cocked her head. "Anything wrong?"

Parker grinned again, shaking her head. "I am so glad I have something new to torment Wings about. I'm going to be in New York with him, C.J., and Liz this weekend. I need the ammo."

Sam sighed, more than familiar with the look she'd just gotten from Parker. She got it a lot from Jack. And gave it to Daniel regularly.

"I'm not sure metaphors are my thing," she said. "No, I'm fine. Just end of the semester holiday blahs combined with finals, I guess."

She brightened, and said, "Keep an eye out, though. I think we may be doing something fun in the shop classroom later ~~but I don't know what yet, since no one else has signed in yet~~."

"New York, huh? With Liz, Angel, and Professor Cregg? Sounds like some major league shopping." If she was a bit envious about being able to go somewhere without being tailed by the NID, she tried not to show it.

"I hear that," Parker said feelingly. "I am so ready for this semester to be over. Thank God we've only got a week." She grinned. "And I'll look for Shop class projects. I still remember the pumpking flinger with fondness."

"Yeah, major league if I can keep from killing Wings. Somehow I think CJ would object." Parker sighed. "And I don't want to upset her any more than I have to. HAve you seen Jack Harkness in the last couple days?"

"Oh, it's not a project," Sam corrected, "Mac's talking about opening the Danger ~~room~~ Shop with whatever holographic image or scenario we can come up with. I voted for a beach party, but I'm not sure what the final decision is."

"Yeah, she seems like the kind of person who'd object to you killing another student," she nodded. "No, I haven't seen him much since he moved out of the dorms and Quantum Physics has been library work because The Doctor's been sick. Why, what's going on with Jack?"

"Ooo. I'll definitely have to stop by then."

"Evidently someone wiped out his memory back to the beginning of the term. CJ's pretty upset." Parker shook her head. "I wonder how the guy is going to pass his Finals. And also? Mixed feelings that he probably doesn't remember last Friday. I'm not sure how to explain that to him without getting complicated." She considered. "Then again, it *is* Jack...."

Sam grinned. "I'll keep you posted."

"Oh, no! That's horrible!" Sam winced, then made a mental note to talk to Jack about his Quantum Physics project. "Wait...what happened last Friday? Jeez, no one tells me anything."

Parker reviewed in her head, then rolled her eyes at herself. "Sorry, I told Liz and Janet, I forgot I didn't tell you. Jack and I, uh. Well, I'd just dumped Michael, and I was depressed, and... Mal Doran wasn't kidding about his mad skillz, okay?"

Sam's cheeks pinked up. "Oh. I'll, ah, keep that in mind."

"By the way, I'm sorry about Michael."

"Yeah," Parker said, grinning a little. "Just one of those facts we know at Fandom High, like don't eat the cafeteria food. Jack Harkness is good in bed." She looked away. "And thanks. It had to happen, and I'm not sorry it's over now. It just stings." She looked up. "How's *your* Jack doing?"

"There are worse things to know about," Sam grinned, "although we probably shouldn't put that in the student handbook. Although, he is a guy, so maybe he'd appreciate it."

"I," Sam blushed, "I haven't seen him for a week. He's been busy catching up from when he got sick, I assume. Not that he's, er, y'know, mine. Or, anybody's, really." She shifted her weight and cleared her throat, a little awkwardly.
