Newspaper Meeting (16:00-20:00 fhs)

Jake is sitting crosslegged on the desks again, laptop in his lap. Next to him lies a piece of paper with a list on. Holiday Diversity is the title. A bunch of names are listed up as well. Jake's drinking coffee and regarding the laptop screen thoughtfully.

"You were trying to... make a connection... with Logan?" She blinked. "Why?"

For a moment Angel looked like he didn't know the answer to that one either.

"Why not?" he replied at last. "Why should I keep pushing him away and acting like the very sight of him makes me want to stab myself right in the eye? What's the harm in trying to get past all that negativity and move on to something more beautiful?"

"Something more... beautiful? What the hell are you talking about? You just told me the other day that you'd be happy if you never had to see him again."

She studied him for a moment. "Are you feeling okay?"

"That's what I'm saying!" Angel said. "What good is it for me to stay stuck in that mindset? It's unhappy. It's lonely." Angel sighed. He looked wistful. "I hate it."

Veronica frowned. "Um, you're lonely?" she asked. "But you have a lot of friends now. I just don't understand why you'd be so concerned about talking to Logan."

"Friends, yeah," Angel shrugged. "But nobody wants to get close to me. Everybody gets scared off by the fangs."

"Not everyone," she said, reaching out to cover his hand with hers.

Angel turned his hand around to gently grasp hers. His voice hinted at hope. "Really?"

Veronica smiled softly. "Yeah," she admitted, feeling slightly relieved to have it out in the open. She hadn't really been sure if she was interested in him like that, but after their phone call yesterday, she was pretty sure she was.

and, speaking of phones, she needs to check her voicemail at some point, cause Marty left her a message... but this way she gets to be embarrassed all over again, assuming his interest was solely from the spell!

"'cause I thought, you know - " Angel looked down " - you were only into that because of the gremlin."

Awkward! Ahh, the highs and lows of dating at Fandom High. And yes, I imagine that is what she'd assume ;)

She sighed. "No, that's what I was trying to explain yesterday, but, well, I wasn't sure if you..."

Hee! Well, she's throwing herself out there... so we'll see how it goes.

"I don't, you know, interact much," Angel said. "With people. So when you said it was just a gremlin bite I figured... okay. I get that."

He's got the self-awareness of a brick. This spell isn't helping matters either.

"I understand," she assured him. "It's not like leather and lap dances are typical for me."

I'm well aware of that... and V would be if I ever let her check her voicemail...

Angel couldn't help a small grin. "It was pretty."

How nuts would it drive people if I confessed Angel interacted with, as of me typing this, two people that he had the beginnings of genuine feelings for? Heh heh heh...

Veronica blushed. "Um, thanks."


I suspect there would be great speculation on the identity of those two people...

I'd be willing to bet that nobody would guess the identity of the second one

Her blush deepened and she looked down, not sure what to say.

Angel ducked his head so he could look at her. "That's pretty too."

She gave him a shy smile and squeezed his hand. It was almost as if she'd forgotten they were in the middle of a meeting and there was probably a room full of people watching them.

Angel squeezed her hand back. "See? Sometimes it's nice to take a chance on reaching out to somebody."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

A tiny smile touched Angel's lips. "I'm glad you didn't push me away like Logan did."

"Wait, what?" Veronica asked. "I'm somehow thinking the situations weren't the same." Or at least hoping, if they were, I could join in or take pictures or something.

"What?" Angel blinked, then shook his head. "Oh no. Totally different. We were in the men's room."

Veronica pulled her hand away.

"Woah. Wait a second. You were reaching out to Logan in the men's room? For something more beautiful? What is going on?"
