The Library (12/06/05)

[janet_fraiser]

Janet unlocks the library, flips on the lights, and goes behind the Collections Desk. She checks in Methos' office to see if his delivery from yesteray has been opened yet. Or if it's still there. Then she starts looking up useful books for her Indo-European and Classics presentation and working on her independent study in math.

Angela grabs a coffee cup. "Hey," she says. Then, quietly: "So you know? Angel is here. I've been avoiding him and he seems to be ignoring me, but I know someone would explain it to Dr. Pierson if you wanted to split."

"I can deal," Rory nodded. "Did, um...did you know that he defended me to Tara after I ran out of class? Like, he apparently gave her this huge talking-to."

"He did?" Angela is surprised. "That's ... I mean, I thought he was, like, her bestest friend, or something. I know you can take care of yourself, but it sounds like he helped you, there. Weird."

"Yeah. Like, Logan and Parker were involved too, but that doesn't surprise me." Rory rolls her eyes. "Of course, this is from Quinn, who we know isn't that reliable. But she seemed to actually be sure on the point that he argued with her and it ended up being a big fight."

"And he was defending your choice to leave? That's completely different," Angela says. "And yesterday Parker said she had talked to him about starting, like, a counter-JA group."

She scratches her chin. "Is it awful that I'm really curious about him now? Obviously I can't forgive him for what he did before the curse. But it sounds like he's really trying."

Rory bites her lip. "I'm kind of curious about him, too. I mean...he sounds different. But I don't know how we're supposed to know he's different. What if he's just tricking us all again?"

"That's where I get stuck, too. I mean, he would have fooled me, if he had wanted to. If he hadn't randomly decided he was angry at Marty, and I was nothing." She swallows. "I trust Parker and Marty. If they were around, I'd be okay with him being there, I think. But he didn't try to kill me."

"I might be okay with being near him if you guys were all with me," Rory muses. "Like, you, Marty, Parker, Logan...." She shrugs. "I'll believe him when I see that he's different. When he does something that I know he wouldn't have done, before? That's when I'll know."

"I talked to him. He seemed different. And singing Manilow was pretty different."

Angela folds her arms around herself. "But I agree we need to wait and see. I don't trust him yet."

"I talked to him too. Right before I hit him and threw waffles at him. And he just...took. That's what struck me. He could've stopped me, but he totally just let me punch him in the face and throw breakfast food."

Rory makes a helpless gesture with her hands. "I don't really know what to make of him, except that I don't trust him, and I don't want to be around him by myself."

"I think that's all we can say," Angela says with a thin smile. "I'm still wearing my necklace, but I won't try to stake him in his sleep."

She shakes her head. "But no way would Angelus have just let you throw waffles at him."
