The Library Is Open (12/05/05)

Janet unlocks the library and flips on the lights.

Sitting on the Collections Desk is a package addressed to "Adam Pierson." The envelope is embossed with an unusual symbol, the meaning of which Janet didn't know. ~~Except she did, because she steamed open the last envelope that came with that symbol on it. But she couldn't do that to this package without getting caught.~~ And that was really starting to bug her.

She moved the package behind the Collections Desk and glared at it until the first library patron showed up.

Rory wanders in, and takes a seat at a table in the back.

[ooc: So...Rory has no idea she's a library aide. No one told her, or me. :) Could someone tell her so we can start training her or whatever?]

After talking with Janet and Zero, Parker notices Rory, and remembers that they hadn't told her she was an aide yet ~~no, really!~~. "Hey. How's your morning going?"

"Oh, I'm okay," Rory replies. She looks closely at Parker. "How're you?"

After Dr. Pierson leaves, having been random and startling, Parker turns back to Rory. "Not good," she says, her voice quiet. "Although it's hard to hate all men when I have Cam-boy bringing chocolate cake, and Boy Scout Adama wondering if I shouldn't pose for Jake Gavin."

"Cam's big on cake," Rory agrees. "And Jake's still having people pose for him? I was supposed to, awhile back."

"Yeah. Me with leather and guns, looking like the cover of NRA Gentleman's Monthly." Parker looked amused. "You can have some of the cake, if he brings it."

She cocked her head at Rory. "Taking you into Special Collections on a Monday would be a bad idea, but we can always show you the rest of the library. First thing to remember? Dr. Pierson is dating Professor Cregg and Professor Ten. You'll see a lot of them around."

Rory blinked. "Both of them? I knew Professor Cregg and the Doctor were dating, but..." She shook her head. "Okay, then."

"Yeaaahhh," Parker said, rolling her eyes. "And this info doesn't leave the library, okay?"

Methos sticks his head out of the office. "Congratulations. By the power vested in my by the Powers that Be of Fandom High, you're a library aide. Whoo-ha. If you have any questions, ask them." He points to the other aids. "I'll be sure to make you suffer later, but we avoid doing that on the first day."

Parker grins, and rolls her eyes, then points a finger at Methos. "What he said. Congratulations. If you still want it?"

Rory stares, and after a moment, grins. "Um. Thank you. Yes, I do."

"Congratulations, Rory!" exclaims Janet. "You want to come back behind the Collections Desk and partake in the extremely not-allowed food and drink back there?"

"Okay!" Rory said cheerily. "Is this one of the perks? Secret foodstuffs?"

"Pretty much," Parker admitted. "Also? The ability to make people dance. It's funny."

"Or sing," Angela chimes in. "Though they haven't let me see them do that yet."

"...who sings and dances?" Rory asks, amused. "And why? Do we need a reason?"

"Apparently we're supposed to do it to make some people get their cards," Angela says. "Ask Parker. It's part of her plot for that Wesley guy."

"Absolutely!" said Janet. "And the ability to confiscate foodstuffs from others to add to the stash. Not that we tell the confiscatees that."

Usually. I mean. Um. *turns pink*

The Library wants me to tell you not to take the strap off that one book.

Which book? The one that was just trying to bite off my hand?

That's...probably the one, sir. Guess I'm a little late, huh?

[Methos sighs, and shakes his head.] Can I borrow your mallet, briefly?

*unzips her backpack to free the mallet, which is sticking out of it*

*holds said weapon out to Professor Pierson* Do you--do you want any help with that?

Nah. I think I've got it.

*Hefts mallet, retreats back into office. Sounds of banging are heard. Finally, Methos comes out and returns mallet to Zero.*

Thank you, Zero. I appreciate it. *goes back into office*

*calls after him* Do you need a red sticker?
